Originally posted by Travlr I had originally planned to go to upstate SC to see the eclipse. Weather reports for that area though are forecasting scattered thunderstorms. Skies in Eastern Tennessee are supposed to be clearer. I plan to stay in Kingsport TN the night before and choose a direction based on the weather reports. |

Originally posted by Oakes I planned going down to Cave Junction camping..but all the Californians have booked the sites for the weekend and wil head up to Salem on Monday morning. |
Weather reports aren’t good for the Greenville SC area, but I’ll still head to Carolina Bauernhaus for the beer, even if I miss seeing the eclipse |
Brooks is a terrible place for viewing the eclipse or just a terrible place? |
Any bets on whether I’ll be able to travel back roads to Salem area during the wee hours of the morning? |
This may be the unpopular opinion, but as an optician who works with an optometrist every day, it’s mine (and her) professional opinion that’s it’s a bad idea to look directly at the sun. Even during a solar eclipse, it will only be "safe" to view during the TOTAL eclipse, and only Nashville is really getting that coverage. Even with "protective" glasses, you will do damage to your eyes if you look directly at the sun. |
