Welcome to Ratebeer News, a roundup of the week’s beer news.



News and Notes



A new study out this week shows that since 2001, the beer industry in the US has created 120,000 new jobs and boosted the economy by $18 billion.



A forklift operator with a Wisconsin Miller Brewing distributor was fired after a picture appeared in the local newspaper depicting him drinking a Bud Light.



The Coors brewery in Memphis, TN will be closed in early 2007. The move is part of the restructuring that will yield the cost savings promised by the merger with Molson.



The James Page brewery in Minnesota has gone bankrupt. The brands have been bought by and as-yet-unnamed small brewer in Wisconsin.



Ballard’s Brewery in England will be expanding with a new building at the end of March.



Beer output in Austria dropped, along with domestic consumption, in 2004.



New Brews



Dogfish Head’s spring seasonal ApriHop will be released on March 1st.



Magnolia Brewing in San Francisco continues to celebrate their Strong Ale Month with the release of a couple of barrel-aged beers, based on McLean’s Wee Heavy and Smokestack Lightning.



Ballard’s Brewery in England has released Hop Bine, its spring seasonal beer. They’ve brewed it a little lower in alcohol this year.



Bushwakker Brewing in Regina, SK has a new Vienna Lager on the go, with Pickard’s Oatmeal Stout coming soon.



Cain’s, the regional brewery based in Liverpool, will be launching a cask lager at this weekend’s local CAMRA festival.



Kenya Breweries has launched White Cap Light. This launching of the second light brand by the brewery comes on the heels of Namibia Breweries’ entry into the local market with Windhoek Light.
