COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Pretty much best smoked porter that is readily available. Smell like an Alaskan salmon smoker, with great olfactory senses. Great porter mouthfeel with perfect co2. Nice roasts finish and dry. Oh so drinkable.

[Bottle from 2013] Olive black colour, light tan ginger pillowy head. Smokey bacon, leather, fresh cut peat, subtle dried fruit & tobacco notes, light earthy with hints of black olives and roast malt notes. Light sweet-bitter harmonic with a notch of acidity and a certain complexity reminicent of leather, olives, roast malts and even liquorice. Medium-full body, bit slick texture, softly carbonated with a long lasting finish.

Bottle 65cl. Light brown head diminishing. Dark brown color. Aroma is chocolate malt, a lot of smoke and a great package of leather. Hint of berries. Taste is sweet, dry and strong. The leather is by all very present here.

2012 edition. Looks nicely: black with good head. Aroma: surprisingly very low smoke (probably because of 3 years of aging), well-distinguished: dark chocolate, coffee and cherry notes. Carbonation is too high. Smoke is in after-taste. Very good, well-arranged beer. Very similar to aged baltic porters.

2014 version. First pour: bomber into a tulip glass. Second pour: into a pilsener glass to try to see more (color, carbonation). Pours very dark, almost opaque black. 1.5 in thick tan head that retains nicely. Leaves thick, clinging lace as it receded. (This pilsener pour had a much larger head, that collapsed with a very nice visual effect from the bottom up. Also, if I backlit the pilsener, I could see a very dark red color behind the front-lit black.) Smokey aroma, as expected from the name, with a faint meaty bacon or ham note. A bit of a boozy smell, even though it is only 6.5%. Pleasant aroma, but not the traditional beer-like. Smokey flavor on initial taste, with a mild bitterness lasting into the aftertaste. Thick, creamy mouth feel. Almost no carbonation visible in the tulip or in the feel. The smoky bacon is there in the taste, but the smokiness is more subtle than I was expecting. With backlighting in the pilsener, I was able to observe light carbonation. The malt backbone of this beer is well represented, but still, the overriding taste is smoky and somewhat bitter. I would have expected more of a malt-forward taste for a porter, but I do like the taste nonetheless. I have two other bottles that my intention is to drink one per year and see how it ages. I’m looking forward to see how this very good beer changes with age.

Smoky aroma... Color is black brown... Flavor is overwhelmingly smoky, like eating from a campfire... Almost too much... Okay at best, but I like my homebrewed version better.

Aroma is quite interesting - lot’s of smoke, malt, beechwood, even a sausage-like aroma. Color is brownish-black, lightly cloudy, with a small white to off-white head. Taste is heavy on the sweet with a long duration. Palate is full bodied. Overall a pretty good beer with some interesting and unusual aromas. I think the smoke is a bit too dominant for my taste though.

Mørk med medium høyde på skummet. Aroma av røyk, noe kaffe og noe tørket frukt. Smaken er kaffe og røyk (som i røkt skinke, bacon osv). Noe søt, med en mild bitterhet i ettersmaken. Tynn/medium konsistens.

Nice porter on the roastier side. Was having this with bbq so the smoke wasn’t overwhelming. Would like to taste this layer without the bbq influencing my palate.

Transports you to Alaska with smoky notes reminiscent of smoked salmon or venison meat. Dark color. Strong smoky and coffee aromas. Rich and full bodied.
