JensenTaster (1430), Denmark May 12, 2008 (on bottle) Rustyred, white head. Aomas from cranberries, wood and mash. Sweet ´n´soft mouthfeel. No real peat or tar here, gets very sweet in the finish, so sweet not even the 10% can balance it out. NJBeerman013 (543), Trenton, New Jersey, USA May 11, 2008 Small sample off of a friend’s 750ml bottle. Pours almost a dark mahogony in color. The aroma is nutty and spicey, a mix of anisete and cloves. This beer has a syrupy sweetness, but in a good way almost like a vanilla/honey flavor. It has a full body ending in a warm, creamy finish. Very good. SSSteve (1384), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 9, 2008 pours a nice brown color with a medium sized off-white head. nutty, caramel, toast, brown sugar, licorice aroma. flavors brown sugar, honey coated nuts, caramel, spices.....very brown. sugary. i don’t notice any smoked notes. i would consider this more of a dubbel or brown ale but excellent either way. stoutlover72 (1235), NorCal, California, USA May 8, 2008 Batch 260 - 2006 Vintage - Received via trade, with whom though I can’t recall. I’m usually down with most beers Allagash produces and that didn’t change with this one either. It reminded me in so many ways of a barrel aged Maudite (if that were to ever exist) it wasn’t funny, and then to find out it’s supposed to be a Scotch Ale?
The beer pours out medium brown color, cloudy with a nice two-finger thick head. Aroma is decidedly dark fruits, spices, bourbon and wood. The beer has a slight prickly mouthfeel. Flavors are dark fruits, a caramel-malt yeastiness, and more bourbon and oak notes. This was an above average beer and surprisingly sweet. Rciesla (166), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 7, 2008 Bottle. Pour is Light brown with the scent of scotch and fruit pear/apple. Flavor is malty, strong hop character, oak. Very drinkable for 10%.
