3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Engine House No 9, pours a deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of caramel malt and considerable resinous hops for an old ale. Flavour is very unusual, with earthy roasted chestnuts upfront, followed by resinous hops and bready caramel malt. Well-balanced and nicely constructed. Strange but decent.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Apex, Portland
Hazy amber color with compact head. This bold Ale has a nice, original fruity character, sweet grapes, light durian; it’s moderately sweet, malty, correct bitterness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler filled tonight from Whole Foods Boise... Enjoyed tonight form a standard tulip... The brew is a pretty deep mahogany... off-white head lasts forever and leaves behind great sheets of lacing.
Nose is a monster PNW BW complete with loads of citrus and pine hops... a bigger than expected caramel maltiness and a bit of dark fruit esters help balance the hop punch.
Flavor is huge from front to back... big piney/citrus zest hops pummel the palate and are barely balanced by a dark fruitiness and caramel/dark toast maltiness... hints of cocoa move into the finish... surprisingly the bitterness seems restrained given the heavy hops... very drinkable even when cold, but this really comes together with warmth.
Big boned, but not sweet or cloying ever... the body is a solid medium.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had on draft at the brewery. This is listed as an old ale, but I found it to be more like an Northwest amber ale. Big juicy American hops, citrus, tangerine, the malts are caramel, nutty, toffee. This is very good.

Growler from B2 Taphouse. Citrus and spice. Smooth and creamy. Some dark fruit sweetness mixed with roasted malts. Piney bitterness throughout. Finishes with a light alcohol burn. A lot going on with this brew. Tasty.
