DuffMan (1742), Calgary (back from 1yr in AUS), Alberta, Canada May 9, 2008 Raspberry juice and caramel and ominously boozy aroma. Fresh tart raspberry balances out the hot boozy palate, along with a nice toffee malt base. Perfectly balanced between sweet, boozy, and tart make this potent brew (crazy potent really) surprisingly drinkable. MadMan (461), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 6, 2008 Bottle. Apparently I wasn’t thinking when I grabbed this bottle to open today, being that I’m here all alone. Yup, there is nobody around to share this huge bottle of ridiculous-ness. I suppose I should have thought a bit harder but the imperial stout I had for breakfast must have clouded my judgement. This hasn’t happened in a while.........but oh well.
To the rating: Pours a nearly opaque reddish brown amber, I guess. It looks not so much like something you would normally drink......kinda like fairly fresh but slightly dirty ATF. Aroma is kinda stomach turning like the whiff of a bad shot of schnapps you wish your buddy hadn’t forced on you, but the raspberry in it is quite pleasant and not faky alcopop like. On to the tasting: The swallow confirms what my nose has told me. This is one crazy bad strong mofo that I shouldn’t have opened and attempted to drink without food and help. It’s over the top alcohol, similar to eating raspberries soaked in everclear, but maybe not as harsh, but regardless the stuff is all raspberry and liquor. Some light medicinal qualities are present but it’s just a result of fruit and alcohol.......which I believe leads to thoughts of medicine. Right? I dunno. Finish is warming, with fairly long lasting raspberry flavors (sometimes tart) and a sweet candy like aftertaste. Mouth feel is approaching sticky and syrupy but not quite there. What a monster. Good lord, what is going to become of my evening? I may attempt to reseal the bottle, but we’ll see. I don’t even want to know how much I paid for this bottle, I think I’d be mad. It’s about a month and a half shy of being aged for a full year......so I wonder how crazy this one is fresh. topher40409 (14), gainesville, Florida, USA May 3, 2008 BEST SEVERVED AT WARMER TEMP.s
A beautiful dark copper color with no head to speak of, very hazy. The nose is strong of rasberries finishing off with a slight alcohol sting. there is almost no malt aroma present. initially a strong malt taste followed quickly by the taste of fermented rasberries, much more like a wine than a beer. the high alchohol is very present as it warms down the throught but does not burn the mouth. leaves a very good aftertaste of fresh rasberries. A great beer to pair with a fancy dinner, but not so great on it’s own. not quite worth the money at 16 bucks a bottle. toddkrem (54), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 3, 2008 Is hazy coloring, smells good. tastes somewhat like a mix drink cuz the alcohol is concealed by sweetness. ryan (1601), Beltsville, Maryland, USA May 3, 2008 Hazy pinkish pale body with a small white head. The nose is cotton candy, honey, raspberry, grainy malt and alcohol. The flavor is cloyingly sweet, with lots of cotton candy, caramel and berries. Full body is rough with moderate carbonation. Gross.
