COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Pours good and dark with tan head. Fruity nose. Strong citrus flavours that overwhelm the malt

Poured black with a thin tan head that faded quickly. Nice roasted aroma with lots of chocolate and oatmeal notes. Some vanilla and nuts too. Taste is very smooth with roasted flavors and oatmeal. Nice chocolate notes. Overall very well balanced. Aftertaste has oatmeal and slightly vanilla flavors. Solid stout, yum.

Poured from a bomber into a tumbler on 01.09.14. A: Midnight black. Completely opaque. No red at bottom. Has a brown foamy head. Amazing. S: Malty. Citrus and flowery hops, which is weird. I feel that the smell clashes. T: Hoppy bitterness, alcohol burn. Some malt, but it is greatly overpowered by the bitterness. O: This one had loads of bitterness. It was completely unbalanced. The flowery hops really did not go well in a stout. This seemed more like it was trying to be a thick CDA than an oatmeal stout. It was poorly executed. This was a drain pour with no guilt.

From notes. Tasted in December 2012 from a capped 22oz bottle that I shared with the group. Pours nearly black with an average brown head that recedes fairly quickly to thin, bubbly lace. The nose is big, dark, and roasted, with coffee, dark chocolate, and toasted cocoa nibs. The flavor is nicely bitter with all of the same roasted and toasted notes from the nose. The body is full with average carbonation and a long roasted bitter coffee finish.

7.5% bomber from Taniguchi served in a snifter. Pitch black pour with a ruddy beige head. The nose is mint, fruity, dark malts. Full bodied, silky smooth and lovely. The taste is lightly roasty, silky oats, cocoa/coffee and milky smoothness with a touch of graham biscuits. Good stuff.

Pours two and half fingers of tan head on a black body. Looks amazing. The aroma is milk, roasted malt, burnt wood and coffee. Great. The taste is creamy, a little roasted malt, playing well between sweet and bitter. The texture is soft and smooth. Outstanding. Wow.

Pours a deep, dark, rich brown, almost black. Creamy and foamy beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, toast, nuts, with floral and resin notes. Taste is rich, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a hint of pine. Finishes bitter, but doesn’t linger. Full bodied, thick, slightly creamy, with soft carbonation. Wonderful after a long day out in the cold.

650ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small beige head, which lasts reasonably well and leaves a little lacing. Bittersweet cocoa, herbal notes and Turkish coffee make up the aroma. Herbal, slightly sappy hops up front give way to bittersweet cocoa and espresso in the mid-palate, with a savoury, almost meaty feel to the finish. A nice stout.
