crizay (1056), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jan 9, 2008 Thanks CaptainCougar. Pours an almost black purple, almost no head at all but it stays thin the whole time. Aroma is big on the booze, vanilla and oak also. Flavor is obviously mostly bourbon, some dark fruits, vanilla, and oak. The flavors of the horn dog have been completely covered up here. Thinner mouthfeel and lower carbonation from the regular version. Not bad but it’s all whiskey. beerking99 (198), USA Jan 4, 2008 Pours a very murky dark brown, through which light does not penetrate, with only the barest collar of foam at the endges of the glass. Aroma is huge vanilla and oak, followed by dark malts and some whisky notes. Very complex. Flavor is extremely sweet upfront, big dark malts, dark fruits (figs, dried plums and raisins), and notes of whisky. Any traces of hops have long since disappeared. Alcohol warms all the way down. Big and full bodied, aftertaste is well balanced and fades fairly quickly. doublebock (125), USA Dec 29, 2007 Very flavorful aroma-cork, malt, oak and alcohol. Color is a deep brown purple with minimal head. Complex amount of flavors-it starts out with grape and wood with strong maltiness then mellowed by smooth hops appearans Dickinsonbeer (2364), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Dec 12, 2007 Big thanks to KP for sharing this rarity! Pours a deep ruby red prune juice and a thin head- light carbonation. Aroma is plum wine- sake, fruity esters, tons of sweet carame malts maple and honey hints with oaky barrel, and medium pappery oxidation. Whiskey flavor a bit high in alcohol, woody, vanilla, super sweet raisin fruity, molasses and some soy ox. boboski (1095), USA Nov 24, 2007 Off-white, soapy, glistening bubbles fail to form any sort of head. A lightly hazy deep brown body with violet hints looks average and altogether uninteresting. The aroma begins with massive notes of whiskey barrel and screeching plum and prune piling out of the glass. Alcohol is moderated by berry notes aplenty. Very nice even when fusels loom under the warming malty blanket. Caramel resonates underneath in various earthtones and candied outreachings of varying degrees. The flavor introduces a moldy cheese yeastiness atop more dark fruits and caramel. This is nearly all malt, with shy bitterness and modest acidity. POrt-like consistency and low carbonation allow for close introspection and inspection of a good blend. The finish is soft, warming and fruity. Very tasty, much appealing than the standard Horn Dog.
