fredandboboflo (157), West Hartford, Connecticut, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle. Normally I give 4’s across the board for appearance, but for a porter, the depth of color on this one just left something lacking for me from the very first pour. Aroma started off nice, if one-dimensional, with deeply roasted malt. It got a touch metallic as it warmed, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Flavor was acceptable but kind of dull, nowhere near the roasty edge that the nose had. Palate wasn’t particular thin, nor particularly sweet, but the combination of thinnish and sweetish wasn’t top-notch. All this is maybe a bit too critical since I didn’t not enjoy it, but at the end of the day, just ok. LilBeerDoctor (114), Hamilton, New York, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark black with a light mocha head that leaves pretty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, coffee. Flavor of the same, some chocolate, some alcohol (weird, since this is only 5.4%) also a weird taste I can’t quite place. Thin, watery palate. This is ok, I guess. I wouldn’t get this again though. Haslinger (340), Tyler, Texas, USA May 7, 2008 bottle, aroma is a little coffee with some anise. Decent taste totally black in color. Lots of roasted malt flavor, good but not great, probably would not buy again tomwhysy (4), USA does not count Apr 30, 2008 12 oz bottle
Nice pour something i would expect from porter , mouth full of cramy coffe flavor at first bitter end with slight aftertaste . Definetly up my alley :) got 5 more to go :) (tonight ) pumpkinheart (48), Aurora, Illinois, USA Apr 27, 2008 Bottle into English pint glass. Pours a near black with ruby highlights; sports a two finger, deep tan head. Aroma is mundane: roasty malts, blah coffee. Taste is much like the aroma, plus a bitter hops aftertaste. Stays around oily on the mouth. This is a by the numbers porter, which leads to a disappointing experience. Better luck next time.
