ketchepillar (233), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Jun 11, 2008 On tap. Aroma was light. This thing was fairly malty, but not sweet. Smoky and a bit nutty. It was kinda of like this one whiskey I had a few months back-the name evades me. Nice hops in the background. A little bit of alcohol but not too much. arrogantb (20), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 9, 2008 Serving type: bottle

12 oz bottle dated 2002. This was the Bull and Bush vintage beer of the month. This thing had absolutely no head which is not surprising for a barleywine. The color was a dark orange-brown and cloudy. I couldn’t pick up much smell from this beer. The taste was good with a hint of chocolate and a little nutty. I could taste the hops as well. The one thing I didn’t like is the “Rogue taste” I detect in all their beers. Maybe it’s the pacman yeast but I just don’t like it. The alcohol was fairly well hidden in the taste but I sure noticed it as soon as I was finished sipping. What a letdown, out of all the Rogue beers I have tried I only liked a 2004 Imperial Stout.

Pours a ruby brown with small head, vibrant for a barley wine. Nose is of wood, malt, nuts, and some alcohol. Flavor was a bold and boozy mixture of nuts, dark fruits, alcohol, heavy malt, and sugar. Palate was medium thick. This beer could use some aging, but overall the flavor presented were quite pleasant. Lastly, this beers complexity was evidenced by its changing flavors as the beer warmed in the glass. Last few sips bordered on a syrupy cherry-booze that was not entirely pleasant, however. Solid. Sweet malt, good touch of hops. Nice texture. Overall a solid beer that I ended up playing a drinking game with.... Bad idea! Cool bottle as well. Thanks again wolf!
