Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

bottled in 2006. pours a burnt copper with an extremely small head, more a collection of bubbles, that quickly disappear. nose of apples, other random fruit, and alcohol, lots of alcohol. flavor is very sweet and syrupy, hints of fruit and our good friend alcohol returns in a big way. for a beer as sweet as this and this much alcohol the finish is surprisingly clean with a mild alcohol burn. maybe next year I’ll grab a bottle and cellar it for a few years.

2007 12oz. bottle. Pours a mildly dark brown with a very small white head that dissapears after a few moments. Nose is raisin and plum. Flavor is very sweet malt along with raisin and plum. Some peppery spices in the mouthfeel.

’06 bottle. Pours clear dark amber with a tight, compact off white head. This is like a concentrated beer...very thick, somewhat syrupy. Reminds me of a DFH 120min and Raison D’extra a little bit. I really can’t explain the aromas going on. It just seems like there is an overabundance of everything with a generous helping of alcohol. Not your everyday drinking kind of beer. It’s a good sipper once it warms up.

Poured a thick dark amber with just a faint head that really didn’t last long at all. The nose had a bit of a sting to it, but it was also full of dark fruits and malt. The taste was initially confusing. Warmth from the alcohol was abundant. There was a sweetness like raisins with robust maltiness, and a nutty malt flavor. The finish becomes increasing unpleasant as it warms. This is a beer to have at the end of the night or as a night cap, not necessarily because of the alcohol content but because it would ruin any beer you have after it because of its over the top flavor, syrupy type content and burning ABV of 14%. Too cloying for my palate.

Brutal one, like a cognac...Orange-copper body, the head dies quickly. Fig and raisins, liqueric aroma. Sweet flavour of dried fruits, raisins chocolate and cognac. The beer warms me up with the high alcohol percentage, but the alcohol is well hidden in the face of the concentration.. The beer has a big personality... But not a doppelbock, it is rather malt liquor...
