shigadeyo (1315), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Apr 28, 2008 4/20/2008: Victory Abbey 6 is an very average, uninspiring, and disappointing beer. The ruby honey color and medium-body are okay, but the aroma and flavor are mediocre at best for an Abbey Dubbel. I was unable to really pick out anything except some bubblegum, generic Belgian fruitiness (berry-like), light Belgian spiciness, and the usual doughy/yeastiness. It is a bit sweet and lacks body, althought it has a slightly syrupy texture on the palate. I suppose this beer was worth trying once, but it really wasn’t work the money and doesn’t really deliver what I was hoping for or expect in a Dubbel...
Pint (draught) at The Publick House in Brookline, MA. Rating #29 for this beer...
santoslhalper (113), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 19, 2008 On tap at Fathead’s. Cloudy fold with a thin white head. Mineral, bubblegum, cotton candy aroma, with bread, clove, and honey notes. Super sweet, slightly acidic taste. Bready, spicy and sweet. Full, creamy mouthfeel. sinkr (116), Lusby, Maryland, USA Mar 26, 2008 Draft->shaker (tasting@brewery): Pours a really average, not much head, lacing, or carbo atop of a clear amber (or light brown body). Some cookie, citrus(lemon), and perhaps dough aromas with light yeast in there as well. The body is medium and the texture is creamy. The brew as a whole is slightly spicy and a very slight spiciness.
Not one of my favorite Victory beers by far and, IMO, sub-par from what I’m used to from them. michael-pollack (1204), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 7, 2008 Draught: Sweet aroma. Smells of honey, mead, yeast, fruit, and berries. Poured amber in color with a medium-sized white head that diminished slowly. Lightly hazy. Very sparkling. Sweet flavor. Tastes of spices, cinnamon, coriander, syrup, and yeast. Medium body. Dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Dry finish. Pigfoot (2164), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 28, 2007 On tap at the Blue Nile.
Poured into a Kasteel chalice.
Hazy, mellow amber hued, with a big, puffy snow white head, filling the glass, slowly succombing, lace leaving...
Classic Belgian yeast aroma, gorgeous fruit and spice, apple and peach, plus apricot, and ?, with lighter layers of lemon, pepper and clove, ...subtle and lovely.
Taste: apples and citrus, light spice. Medium to light bodied, overall smooth as can be...easy, easy-drinking. A bit too watery for my taste, could use more body, but if their aim was to create a tasty, drinkable pale ale, Belgian-style, and in that they succeeded. Feels a lot like an American amber ale, with a special Belgian twist.
Clearly, they weren’t trying to clone or even emulate the Westveletern Abt 12...but employed their yeast to make a tasty drinker. Nothing wrong with that. You can gave more than one at a time, and that’s not a bad thing at all.
