wilkie (1000), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA May 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber, with a medium off-white head. Aroma is raisin, plum, caramel, and some citrusy hops. Flavor is similar, grainy, very rich, sticky, with a strong alcohol aftertaste. Very tasty beer. Ibrew2or3 (1432), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 3, 2008 Courtesy of Degarth. Thanks buddy, I can take this off my wants list. Pours clear deep gold with decent white head. The aroma is on the mild side with figs, prunes and dates for the dark fruity esters and mild malt sweetness. The taste is malty sweet and sugary malts backed by sort of evened out mild pine hops before some of the alcohol sensation grows to a tepid level. Midway I get wet sticky rye maltiness that helps balance the sweet maltiness and mild dark fruity esters. jsh12bama (151), Alabama, USA May 2, 2008 Pours golden with virtually no head. Aroma of honey and rye bread. Taste of honey first and then rye at the end. Medium mouthfeel. Not very good. Way too sweet. Very hot with alcohol. Drain pour. Mr_Stitch (110), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2008 22oz Bottle. Pours a golden honey color with a very small head that disappears quickly. Aroma is sweet, fruits, malt, and candy all playing off of one another. Taste is very interesting subtle hints of rye, big sweet malts and just a bit of hops. Mouthfeel was syrupy and thick with very little carbonation and nice mellow warming sensation from the high alcohol content. Overall this seemed more like a malt liquor than a barley wine to me. I don’t mean that in a bad way, it just has a certain sweetness that I usually associate with malt liquor. This is actually a very nice sipping beer in my opinion. It’s definitely not for chugging or to quench your thirst on a hot summer day... but overall its not bad at all. thornecb (898), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 18, 2008 Pours gold into a Trappist glass. No head whatsoever. Sour caramel aromas. Tastes like it smells...very slight rye flavors.
