Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale

got a bottle from an nj store .whole lot of head. foggy which is weird for a pils. sediment even looks granular/grainy. faint aroma but not unpleasant. flavor is lemon, brass, pennies. mouthfeel is seltzery. too much tang for my palate. funny, i remember drinking this on tap in philly and being impressed. not this time.

Pours a hazy deep golden color with a lot of carbonation in it. Has a thick frothy head, about 2-fingers, that lasts for awhile. Strong citrus nose of grapefruit and even a little bit of orange. A few sweet brown sugar and caramel notes as well. Has a very bright citrus flavor right when you drink it. A little bit of sour and a little bit of bitter. Very strong grapefruit. Has a little bit of malt character, but it needs more balance. Strong citrus sort of dissolves on the tongue into a sort of flat grain taste. Light and refreshing body.

poured from a bottle and never had before this beer has an interesting flavor at first. the malt and hop components combine with a true german type pilsner nose to reveal that good times are soon to come. unfortunately by the second or third gulp you realize that this flavor is clearly just ordinary glass cleaner. or some other cleaning fluid. but alas it has a good finish. funny how that works.

Sampled on-tap in Philly. Pours clear gold. Nose is very sticky sweet pine hops. Strong but not really overdone. Flavor is very hoppy, yes. But it seems to drop off a bit and shifts to a slightly earthy and dirty edge. The hops seem to still stick around though. Just not as clean as I would like overall. Feel has a good carbonation. Overall a decent brew, but the odd dirty edge kind of ruins it a bit for me.

Blah. I expect great things from Yard’s and this beer let me down. Aroma was faint but could pick up some hops. Pour was a nice light gold with a huge 3 finger white head. Taste was very stale. Heavy carbonation that doesn’t let the flavor come through. Light hoppiness in the aftertaste but all in all not much to talk about.
