375mL with a super dong whale thanks to rasmusott. Pours fairly ink with ruby highlights with a thin, red Martian foam. Fruity fresh nose with strawberry and raspberry dark chocolate. Smoked dark chocolate and mild saltwater with kalamata olive brine. Very sharp and savory. Taste is super rich and oily, massive silky palate. Quite dry and salty with big umami and roasty savoriness. Superlative silky palate. I love the savory complex nose of this bad boy. Taste is sharp and savory with big dark chocolate bitterness. Yum yum yum.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2012 37.5 cL bottle, courtesy of blomster. Thanks, Christer! Pours a deep, dark chocolate-brown color with a slight medium-brown head with excellent lacing. Layers of bitter chocolate, cocoa, and dried red fruits; restrained sweetness and nicely bitter. Full bodied with light carbonation. Loads of viscous dried fruits, dark chocolate, and a vinous alcohol warmth that never seems other than perfectly integrated; notes of caramel and touches of oxidation, but nothing beyond a hint of paper and dried caramel. Delicious. Long-lasting finish of caramel, dates, and bitter chocolate; lightly warming.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 erickok (1054) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - APR 6, 2012
Dark brown. Sticky body. Raw, blank wood, grapes and a soft malty base. Smooth body, but sharp tones as well. Very long aftertaste. Nice brew! (375ml bottle, at dEnk house tasting)

Rating #2600. Pours black with a thin dark chocolate/reddish head. Aroma of booze, raisin, sugary malt, vanilla, nougat, and chocolate. Flavor is more roast and chocolate as opposed to the overbearing sweetness in the aroma (nevertheless it still is quite a sweet beer especially in the aftertaste). Unfortunately seems as though the coffee has faded by this point. Definite grapey/winy texture to the palate and some of the sweetness is not just the malt and booze but the fruits of the wine barrel. Overall, quite a tasty, unique beer and it seems to have held up well over time.

(bottle shared by nbutler!) Pours dark brown with a garnet hue and a soapy tan head. Aroma had chocolate, some vinous notes, port/raisin. Taste is sweet with a touch of bitterness. Full bodied and slick. Bitter finish. Pretty good beer. Thanks Nick, I’d been wanting to try this one for a while.

The beer is black in color with a small tan head. A strong roasted malt aroma comes through along with a bit of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. The port offers a nice but subtle fruit character in the background. It’s somewhat boozy and definitely a touch oxidized. The beer doesn’t taste quite as boozy as it smells, but still shows the 12% ABV. Nice port flavor and some dark fruits along with a very heavy roast and some coffee. A strong oak flavor with a bit of a tannic feel to it. Only moderately sweet with notes of caramel, molasses, and toffee.
