pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2009 750ml bottle (bottle 146/249).... pours a dark caramel brown with a thin tan head.... aroma of pretty straight forward bourbon and light nut and chocolate... flavors of assertive bourbon barrel flavors of strong bourbon flavors with hold on through in the finish. middle has more nuttiness and malt... not bad but a little boozy. cmillward (418), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark thick brown with a tight tan head. Nose is bourbon, rich malt, caramel, vanilla, hints of dark fruit and chocolate. Flavor is bourbon, nutty caramel malt, hints of chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla. The barrel’s thinned this out a bit, low carb, fairly silky, a bit of barrel tannins. Not as hot as at the release. BuckeyeBoy (1639), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle 137 of 221 Poured after the non Bourbon Barrel aged version. Pours out a dark brown topped with a small sand head. Aroma was of bourbon a little over powering but hey. Also some oak and vanilla. Taste was of sweet chocolate, vanilla, oak, and plenty of rick roast malts. masonjer (557), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 9, 2009 Thanks to solan for this one. Quite the rarity. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla and nutty. Taste is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and roast. A good bit of bourbon but I liked it overall. Pretty tasty. Beerlando (2283), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 4, 2009 Black wax dipped 750ml bottle, #126 of 221. Pours a translucent chestnut to mahogany brown hue with a small, frothy head of smooth, dark khaki foam. Thin, smooth arches of lacing mark the glass. The aroma shows a malt base of toasted caramel, cola, and molasses, with hints of candied pecans and hazelnuts. Soft bourbon and peppery oak complete the nose. Flavors show the same, based in brown sugar, caramel, and nuts, with a warming, sour mash bourbon twang. Smooth and velvety, but thinned a bit from the barrel aging, the palate shows a good amount of malty sweetness, but isn’t overly hot from the bourbon. Good brew, but I don’t think the barrel adds much to his one. It’s the least impressive of the barrel aged Cigar City beers. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Sep 27, 2009 Bottle (marked as 80 or 81/221) thanks to JohnC. Dark brown hazy pour with beige head. Aroma is bourbon and caramel. Flavor is leather, caramel, pancakes, light coffee on the finish. Very good. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2009 Thanks to dchmela. Really sexy bourbon smell mixed with normal bolita sugary smell. Smooth bourbon and chocolaty malts, and vanilla flavor. Awesome. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 20, 2009 Bottle #57. Pours brownish red with big head and thick white lacing. Nose is strong with bourbon, caramel, strong rich brown sugar and some woody notes. Flavor is great: bourbon, wood, caramel, vanilla, rich cocoa, dark malts, slight roast. Really surprised at how well the bourbon blended with the Bolita. A very good beer. Very easy to drink.
