Angeloregon (1898), Portland, Oregon, USA May 26, 2008 On tap at Gasthaus in a maskrug--Abysmal opaque black body with a thin tan head. Deep, thick, roasty, coffee, toffee, chocolate flavor. Finished big and slightly sweet and boozy. Don’t drink a krug of this on an empty stomach (hurl!) 5000 (2400), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA May 5, 2007 Draught at Widmer: Black in color, huge tannish head, very foamy, clingy lacing. Nose of heavy roasted malts and bitter hop goodness. Rich burnt malts on the
tongue, slight soy and milk sugar. Sweet yet with a heavy roasted malt bitterness. A little rough, but heavy and big enough to appreciate.
Not one of your lighter stouts. Strong, robust, even if it does sting a little. Lingering hop and lactose elements. Rich bitter roasted
malts throughout. Great example of the style, but perhaps a little young. I wish I had some bottled to let sit for a few years.
BuckeyeBoy (1130), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2006 On Tap At Widmer Brothers brewery/pub in Portland OR. pours out a black topped with a tan head. A nice mix of malt and smoke. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jun 13, 2006 Just being in close proximity to this beer will give you impressions of espresso-laden chocolate alchohol. Putting the glass to your face only reassures that impression with full force. The espresso in this beer isn’t the cleanest I’ve tasted, but it may be the chewiest. Wow: smokey, bready and tons of cloying here. I could taste this beer several minutes after finishing it - the malt seems to stick to your teeth and coat the palate. The finish is very nice, gives you a good lasting impression. Good stout, great finish. rkuhnel (1102), Eureka, California, USA Jan 13, 2006 On tap at the Widmer Gasthaus, Portland brewhouse. Dark. In fact black as not much light showed through. Medium tan head that lasted for a while. Malts and chocolate. The richness hides the alcohol. Very smooth. This is a really good brew.
