4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle share at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, FL. Thanks Alex! 12oz. bottle. Pours a jet black, oil looking substance. Thin tan head. Aroma was strong chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla, oak, and dark fruits. (Love the aroma) The taste was amazing with deep chocolate and nibs, vanilla, oak barrel, and a thick lactose. Creamy mouth with a thick finish. Full body, light carbonation. The flavors and balance is quite amazing. Love it!

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from bottle at GABF. This wasnt on draft during my session.
Silva has great smooth bourbon aroma and taste. Some roastiness and ends abruptly. Not a lot of complexity, especially for a 17month barrel aged variant of a tasty base stout. Maybe this was aged for TOO long, guys.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours black with a small coffee colored head fading into a ring along the side of the snifter. Lots of barrel presence in the aroma. Vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruits and a kiss of bourbon.
A lot roastier flavor than the nose lets on. A little vanilla and booze sneaks up at the back end, but itís very well balanced. Roast turns into sweet booze with no element standing out over another.
Medium carbonation and a thicker body feel. I could use a touch more on the body, but thatís just nitpicking.
Very good stout that I hope to get again. I love the flavors and if it had a bit more body, I think Iíd prefer it to BCBS. As it is, itís still very close.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
(9/14/13) Pours a glassy blackbrown and fills the snifter with two fingers of bubbling mocha head.
The nose is a wonderful example of a barrel aged stout - not too boozy with plenty of sweetness and dark fruits, and some leather and vanilla. Thereís a bit of bourbony chocolate lurking there too. The nose is very complex and smooth. Honestly, itís up there with BCBS as far as complexity and cohesion goes.
The taste just as complex as the nose. Starts off with a big roasty, boozy bourbon hit, but not overpowering or unbalanced. After my palate reels from that hit, thereís a onetwo hit of coffee and some dark fruits. As the taste finishes, it catches me with more roasty coffee notes. The finish lingers with a burnt, roasty, ash tobacco notes. It is not unlike the lingering taste of a good cigar.
The mouthfeel is very creamy and full. Lots of carbonation to carry the taste.
Overall I was feeling pretty neutral about this brew at first. It was simply a top notch barrel aged RIS. However, upon realizing that the taste reminded me of a good cigar (of which I havenít had in about 4 years), I liked this brew a lot more because it was unique - it stood out among other RISs Iíve had because of this. The roastyness of this brew was done wonderfully - it was a complex roastyness that benefited and was made more complex by the barrel aging.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle:   Black, thin sudsy beige head, spotty lacing.   Sweet roasted malt nose, slight lactose, some chocolate and cocoa.   Minor oak and bourbon, very minor.   Rather woody on the tongue, cocoa, dark chocolate, faint vinous qualities, along with bourbon, and strong roasted malts.   Not a heavy stout, body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Soft roasted malt finish, pale cocoa and oak, slight bourbon.   Donít expect this to be a strong bourbon stout because it is not.   Smooth, light bourbon and roasted malts linger.   Very enjoyable, and solid.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle with huge thanks to Stawn! Pours pitch black with a small brown head that dissipates with decent lacing remaining on the glass. Aroma is roasty bourbon. Flavor is similar, with notes of vanilla, cocoa and oak. Light to medium sweet, not much bitterness, some woody astringence. Fairly light bodied actually, some carbonation in the mouth. Nothing really special here - maybe batch 1 was better.
