Completely black in colour and absolutely no head. Complex tastes of licorice, fresh coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Very full, somewhat oily body, light carbonation, and a very long finish of licorice, coffee and alcohol. A strong, fantastic imperial stout

Black as black can be with a nice thin brown head. Smells of treacle, marmite, molasses, wood, port, brown sugar and rich roasted dark malt, dark fruits, including raisins, and figs. Tastes of dark prune, figs, raisins and sultanas, Christmas cake, roasted dark malt, coffee. Full delicious body. Delicious stout

330ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours very dark brown - almost black with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, raisins, dates, prunes, coffee, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate and wood. Flavour is light to medium bitter and medium sweet. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is long, warming alcohol and complex.

While this one is the least complex of the three, it’s still incredibly tasty. Has a bit of warmth in the finish. All the flavors are dominated by the sweet. Could easily sip on a couple of these. Thanks again to John for his generosity in his gift of this to me!

Bottle from Wholefoods Market Kensington. I’ve had this about 2 or 3 years. Pour’s incredible, inky black, thick and oily. Probably thickest pour I’ve seen on a non-vintage beer. Very dark brown to black opaque in the glass, very thin brown tan head which dissipates to nothing almost immediately. Nose is sweet black treacle, savoury Marmite/yeast extract, molasses, aged wood barrel, sherry, port, black sugar, roasted dark malts. Sweet fortified beer, slight oxidisation, dark fruits, prune, raisins, dried fig. Taste is pretty damn good. Dark fruity prune, dried fig, raisins and sultanas, sherry, tangy dried fruit, sultanas and raisins, Christmas cake, plum pudding, roasted dark malts. The hops and dark malt is giving this a huge dried fruit profile. Sweet, tangy, little dryness with the sweetness. Wish I’d kept this for Christmas! It’s great to have a big flavoured stout which has balance too.

Great monster of a beer, it’s a night in all by itself! Intense imperial stout with loads of deep, dark and sweet flavours!
