COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
PUGACHEVíS COBRA: The brainchild of Victor Pugachev -- not for the faint of heart. Pilot suddenly raises the aircraft nose to near vertical before dropping back to attack mode. Get ready for an assault on your senses with PUGACHEVíS COBRA, an intense Russian Imperial Stout. This rich, black beauty with a thick caramel head is bursting with aromas of chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, licorice and dark fruits, while flavors of chocolate-covered plum, sweet malt, bourbon, and roasted coffee explode on your pallet. Three different dark roasted malts and rich maple syrup are combined in a truly unique brewing process to create complexity and depth. Once fermented, itís then aged for eight months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels. This powerful concoction is designed to be enjoyed now with friends or cellared to perfection and savored in the years to come.

750ml (2013) bottle shared by Dan P. Poured a dark brown/almost black color with a small foamy mocha colored head. Aroma is really boozy with notes of bourbon, oak, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. Taste mimics the nose with some earthiness, and some burnt sugar/caramel in the aftertaste.

Fairly thin and unimposing in appearance. Ebony, sure, but watery. The bubbles are fizzy as a soda, popping away in no time at all. Sharp, woody whiskey aroma -- mid-shelf stuff. Sweet vanilla, brown sugar, butterscotch, marshmallow. Tangy, bittersweet dark chocolate. The whiskey flavor is again large and packed with wood -- this is like sucking on a oak chip. The sharp stuff is slightly smoothed out mid-palate by tones of vanilla and buttery toffee. Alcohol flavor is likewise impressive. This is almost more whiskey than beer. Lingering tanginess on the sides of the tongue. A body like simple syrup, heavy with sugar. Smooth and soft, a fleece blanket of beer, with a similar layer of heat. Carbonation is a bit high for the style, pinching, excited. Alcohol isnít very well-hidden, but it is 16.4 percent ABV. Aged in barrels with a slight char, Iíd wager. Bourbon is potent; this could stand a few months in the cellar at least. Rough. Best shared with friends.

Been waitin a long time to try this one. The Hammerhead (BA Barleywine) is an all time favorite, and I generally like stouts better, so... Not quite there. While this was an excellent beer, it was way more over the top sweet and alcoholic, compared to the work of art that was Hammerhead. The maple was very very subtle. Big, rich dark, layers upon layers of chocolate, bourobn, licorice. A little restraint and this would have been a world beater. Still great at an over the top 333 proof."

2013 vintage (I was told ) at Strong Beer Fest. Pours such a dark brown I couldnít find the black writing on my glass. Tan head. Aroma chocolate, caramel, regular coffee, vanilla, bourbon. Much of the same in the mouth. Quite chocolaty, with hints of the caramel, coffee, bourbon. Oak in the finish. Nice.

2013. Pour is almost black with a fairly tight and creamy tan head. Nose is big and rich, hint of barrel up front with lots of chocolate cake, vanilla, maple syrup, notes of roasted and almost burnt malt very light. Good malt depth but a little sugary in the nose. Taste has more roasted malts up front, slightly acrid mid palate. Tons of maple syrup, vanilla, and chocolate cake. Sweet maltiness and a bit of bourbon and wood in the finish, not overly sugary but definitely a sweet beer. Full bodied, creamy feel, chewy and dry.
