Keg at CBC 1st Birthday Celebration, London. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige foam head. This smells incredible, rich chocolate, some bourbon, maple, dark wood, rich dark fruits. Medium to big sweet flavor with miraculous balance, some restrained roasted malts, burnt wood, lots of dark fruits, raisins and dates, dark chocolate, chocolate-covered cherries. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, lots of dark chocolate, some alcohol bite, torched wood, faint mocha, strong roast, earth, dark berries. This is excellent. The barrel aging definitely complements the original beer. The balance is superb, the flavors fully realised. Lovely chocolate and cherry character, too. Outstanding on every front.

Keg at North Bar, Leeds. Pours a brownish black, small brown head. Aroma is wonderful - chocolate, coffee, hop spice and plenty of bourbon and vanilla. Taste is similar, lovely roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, whack of bourbon, but the interplay with the beer is really nice - the bourbon’s not too overpowering, it’s just right. Long coffee bitterness to finish. Seriously good.

Tap at the Cask, Pimlico - 25/09/12. Rich black colour with a good tan head. Dark malts, wood, bourbon, sweet sugars and molasses on the nose. Roast malts in the taste, chocolate, hint of licqourice, chicory, wood and bourbon tones. Fuller end of medium bodied with moderate carbonation leading to a touch of alocohol in the finish. Decent bourbon RIS.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012. Poured an opaque brown with a small but lasting light tan head. Spicey & rich aromas of bourbon, some wood, raisin & prune. Drier on the tongue with notes of coffee, chocolate, spice, bourbon, wood & dried fruits. Medium to full body, warm in the mouth, softish on the palate finishing with a lingering dark malt bitterness.
