from Mark and Spencer, London - Black beer with a moderate foam left, solid hoppy aroma of licorice, black cherries, roasted malts underneath, full-bodied, some initial malt seeetness and a solid bitterness, more licorice and other hoppy tones in the finish and apparent alcohol as well

Bottle from Vinmonopolets BU. Pours black with a thin and creamy, white head. Very similar to a Guinness. Malt, ripe fruit, some alcohol and milk nose. Medium body and carbonation. Some warming alcohol. Dry ending. Medium bitterness. Red fruit, malt, some citrus and hop and some pine flavour. A very, very good brew. Seems more like an hoppy imperial porter to me though.

Can from AlesByMail.co.uk. Dark brown body, with a big, creamy, very stable, tan head, that leaves a ring-shaped lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, nuts, earth, grass, citrus, tangerine, tropical fruits like mango and lychee, slight pine. Taste is pretty similar, great balance between dark malts and fruity hops. Mouthfeel is medium to full, oily, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes bitter, roasty and citric. Simply a tasty Black IPA, one the best I’ve had so far! It isn’t overly exceptional, but it offers everything I expect from this style, has an almost perfect balance and lovely, complex aromas.

Bottle from the Vineyard, Belfast. Citrus aromas moving into sweet roasted malts and then coffee and chocolate. It poured a deep black with a gorgeous creamy tan head that left lots of lacing for most of the drink. Citrusy hops in flavour with a lightly smoked roasted malt aftertaste. Highly recommended.
