11/II/15 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ John’s place - BB: n/a (2015-175) Thanks to John and Jan for sharing the beer!

Clear very dark brown beer, creamy irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very roasted, sweet, caramel, very intense, heavy, dried fruits, sugary, some dark chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very malty, caramel, cocoa powder, roasted, some ripe fruits. Aftertaste: very roasted, coffee, lots of chocolate, hoppy, bitter, mocha, some caramel, slightly sweet, alcohol is noticeable. Lovely beer.

In a 22oz bottle. Pours thick and rich. Flavors of roasty chocolate, some coffee, fig and faint vanilla. Some raters have found some smoke, but I only find a fwee bit of molasses. Finishes quite dry. Solid.

Bottle sampled at the excellent Beermoth tasting room, Tib St, Manchester. Pours black with a thick tan head. Nose tingling aromas of licorice, dark chocolate, Dark roast coffee. Very smooth indeed. Flavoursome bursts of rich coffee roast, smoke, burnt wood, Dark chocolate. Exceedingly dry. A noble brew.

Bottle sampled at RBBWG IV. Late at the eve, so notes might be a little shady. Dark brown, no head. Soy sauce, quite hoppy, subtle coffee and lots of malts. I miss chocolate.

Thanks to ElManana + 1! 650 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG IV. Blackish, little head. Nose is heavy on umami, lots of soy sauce, herbal. Taste is bitter soy sauce, roast, herbal, coffee, malty. Soy sauce body. Okay but soy sauce, herbal + roast aren’t my preferred flavours for a RIS,.

Bottle from Corvallis Brewing Supply. If my label is correct, this is the 2010 vintage. A: Pure black, mocha color head, lacing. N: Enormous cocoa, milk chocolate, molasses, and coffee in the nose. Licorice, char, and smoke. Hints of vanilla and rye bread. Leaves, earth, peppercorn, and pine show up from the hops. T: Bittersweet in equal proportions and both in large quantities. M: Medium-heavy body - not as heavy as I’d like (though it might be due to the age.) Oily, soft carbonation, alcohol is well-hidden. O: A pleasing IRS that reminds me of a non-blended Abyss. I think this would be pretty special with a touch more body and perhaps a little barrel.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2014) Black colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and a touch of soy sauce. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, cacao, dark bread, liquorice and a fairly dry finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Almost full body, quite dry. Tasty and well made imperial stout. Very nice.
