washoppinin (19), Florida, USA Oct 30, 2009 A must have in the house at all times! Perfect balance of malts and hops-neither one overpowers the other-they both pack a punch. JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 30, 2009 Pours a dark clear amber, off-white head. Citrus, bitter hops, pine, sweet caramel malt, alcohol, honey, rye, and even the hops seem to taste sweet. Kind of like sweet soaked bread. This is a very sweet IIPA, and I dont like that in this style. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Oct 27, 2009 Bottle, which has been on display for some time, very fresh when i had it. Pours an orange body with a white head. Nice citrus, and floral hop tones. Pine, rye, and some lighter caramel warming but not malty in some way. Pretty awesome brew. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Oct 21, 2009 12 oz bottle at Max Lagers in Atlanta, sampled 4/26/08. Hazy dark amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. Fresh citrus, grapefruit, piny, woody, and bready aroma with boozy notes. Big bready and earthy malts with the rye kicking in some distinctive character, finishing with lots of juicy citrus, grapefruit, and woody bitterness. Medium to full bodied but very drinkable. reverendj (34), Brunswick, Georgia, USA Oct 21, 2009 As usual, Terrapin satisfies......uber hoppy with a hint of sweet clover honey. Dare I say that it looks like a cup of tea with frothed cream on top. Bracingly bitter with the pungency of rye, warming alcohol at the finish. Another thorn in the west coast brewers side. Elwood (665), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Oct 20, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Cloudy, brownish orange color with a large, pillowy, light tan head. Great head retention and great lacing left behind. Nice looking beer!
Aroma: Big boozy citrus hops, some stone fruit, and lemon pith. A huge nose you can smell as soon as you pop the top.
Flavor: Pine resin and citrus hops dominate the tongue, hops eating away at my enamel. Over ripe citrus fruit, a bit of honey, and grass notes. This one is big and tasty.
Palate: Medium, very smooth and soft carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel and a medium-long, boozy finish. Rich and soft on the tongue.
Overall: A great IIPA that is definitely worth trying. bblack99 (196), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 19, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a cloudy coppery amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma is incredibly musty, like a soggy biscuit that has just passed its acceptable age.
Biscuit and honey are also apparent in the flavor, but the rye is the star. The rye’s spicyness really helps offset the bitter hops and the sweet-yeasty nature of the beer.
Good, not great, definitely unique. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Oct 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a one finger lasting off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, pine, citrus, and floral hops. Taste is sweet malt, biscuits, spicy rye, caramel, and citrus hops. Medium full mouthfeel mith a moderate to strong amount of bitterness and warm but never hot alcohol. Very good.
