Oct 18, 2009 Black as night with a very dark head. Molasses, coffee, roasted malts, some cocoa as well as chocolate in the aroma. Thick, syrupy body. Flavor is rather molasses filled. Also full of chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, dark fruits and light licorice. Very nice impy.

Oct 3, 2009 12oz bottle at the Brickskeller. Pitch black, with a beige-brown, oily,patchy head. Big-time roasty aroma. Lots of chocolate and coffee. Lots of underlying flavor, but the alcohol tends to dominate, not unlike other big DR beers. Other than that it is pretty right on, with some pleasant sweet maltiness.

Sep 26, 2009 AN INTERESTING BREW IT TASTES LIKE SOY SAUCE THAT IS ROASTED IN GIN with a light touch of sweetness like honey. it has a rich pour and a medium chocolate head on it. a bit of carob in the flavor as well it has a moderate smooth and frothy mouthfeel and a light in carbonation enhancing its spicy zing on the tongue. like i said interesting.

Sep 25, 2009 Pours a dark brown with basically no head. Aroma is of licorice and coffee. Taste is dark with some bitter coffee and malt. Finish is smooth, but pretty bitter. Kind of disappointing.

Sep 14, 2009 Much thanks to Durhambeer for this my 700th! Pours with a small brown espresso swirl head. Aroma is plenty of raisin and plum with some chocolate, plenty of molasses and a little burnt toast. The flavor is fairly dominated by the burnt toast thing, but it’s fairly balanced by plums, a light nuttiness, some dark chocolate, and some cherry. There is plenty of bitterness and the alcohol is mildly intrusive but warming and whiskey like at the same time.

Sep 1, 2009 Pours solid black with a thick brown head. Aroma is complex with dark chocolate, vanilla, plum, and sweet roast malt. Taste is alc, cocoa, vanilla, and finishes with bitter roast/hop. Medium thin body with mild carbonation gives it a creamy coffee like texture.

Sep 1, 2009 Bottle compared side by side with stone ris. Pours a near black with quick fading brown head. Nose is hot, chocolate, roast, bandaid, plastic. Flavor is roast chocolate with a nutty vegetal with a wierd plastic Silky texture. But there is something unusual here that I don’t care for. More like an imperial stout mixed with a nut brown.
