4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thick black body, the darkest and most impressive I?ve seen in a long time. Super malty aroma both with fresh roast and more creamy chocolate milk. Pine and resin hops too, but it?s all about the thick body. Wow, what a mouthfeel, so impressive. A lot of ingredients, care and work in this recipe, that?s for sure. And it shows! Fuck barrel aging. This is beer! (Bottle from Saveur Bière)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge enjoyed at home
Pours jet black with a dark brown dense head. Smell of chocolate, roast, dark malts, hints of coffee, dark dark fruits and toast. Medium sweet, great roast, coffee, cocoa, intense dark malts and toast. Medium bitter, great dark chocolate. Superb and rich of flavors, well balanced

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg. Black with a medium sized diminishing light brown head. Lots of coffee in the nose, fudge, cocoa. The flavour is like liquid fudge. Chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, espresso, dates, figs. Creamy, thick and soft on the palate, full body, sweet but well balanced. Long roasted finish. Good stuff.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
’Popular’ American impy with very dark mahogany colour, only revealing itself around the edges, otherwise plain black; coarse and irregular, deep brownish beige head, breaking open but retaining well around the edges and leaving a thin beige veil over the beer. The nose is rich, ethereal, deep and powerful and makes me happy immediately: lots of roastedness and smokiness, with suggestions of caffe latté, cured meat, wet leather, old-fashioned candi syrup, vanilla, bayleaf, meat broth, molasses, brown rhum, cocoa, bourbon, sherry, raisins... No off-flavours whatsoever. Dense candied onset, refined, candied dates, chocolate fondant and a faint hint of salty soy sauce, obviously thick and oily mouthfeel, smooth and velvety with the appropriate soft carbo, sherryish and caramelly middle phase, strong coffeeish roasted bitterness showing up early and lining the mouth cavity, spicy bitter chocolate ’à gogo’, finish further ’bittered’ by peppery hops supporting the roasted malts, smoky touch, very long and dry with an important whisky-like alcohol effect, though it somehow remains elegant and simply warming for a long time, without becoming burning at any point; a ’fat’ black chocolate and coffee, lightly sweetishly bitter ’roastedness’ sticks to the throat along with a deeply meaty umami taste. From the nose to the finish, this brew shows a beautiful ’parcours’ evolving from sweet to bitter. Great and completely flawless stout, but I hadn’t expected anything less from these guys, actually. Since this is quite easily available - at least in comparison with the legendary ’whales’ in this style - I highly recommend this to anyone trying to get acquainted with the concept of imperial stout. It has the same demanding, thick and multi-layered flavour and texture as any good impy, as well as the impressive looks (viscous, black and sitting under a creamy brown head, like an Irish coffee). I remember falling in love with this particular style after tasting a vintage Courage, but this one surely has the same noblesse, if not more.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
For me this beer is a definition of imperial stout. Perfect roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and fruity hops aromas. Pours thick and opaque with dark brown head. This beer just own your palate with oleaginousy and taste, pulling your mouth away. Very nice, I would recommend it to everybody.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Ohh well. Basically for looks I always rate 3 or 4 but this is as close to perfect it can get. Black oily looks, huge veige creamy head. Oh well could leave more lacing maybe. Aroma is huge smoked malts, coffee, chokolate, roast, fruity hops. Taste is smooth smoked malts, coffee, chocolate. Smooth and balanced mouthfeel and I've got a hurry so yes. This was awesome.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle served in a tulip glass. The brew is inky black and thick with a small dark brown head. Aroma has dark, dark chocolate. Quite like a brownie or a chocolate cake. Coffee, some slight dark fruits and spices. Flavor is quite hefty. Thick, thick mouthfeel with flavors of chocolate cake and coffee. Quite bitter finish, but it balances the sweetness in a good way. This is one hell of a beer!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pitch black and the darkest brown head I have seen. Very thick but not overly so. Chocolate coated raisins explode with the initial sweetness and then a quite profound bitterness appears from the blackness. A close to perfect imperial stout and is only marked down as I find this can be quite varied. Some are world-class others merely better than average. Never been disappointed just some have been better than others.
