Commercial Description:
Also known as St.Ambroise Millésimée.

In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%. In 2009 this went to 9.8%.

Bottle. 2009 Vintage. Pours a deep amber with reddish hints when held up to the light. Offwhite head that disappears pretty quickly. No lacing. Aroma shows plenty of malt with lots of caramel and toffee. Plenty of spice most notably cinnamon and perhaps a little alcohol. Flavours are domoinated by the malt with heaps of toffee. Plenty of resionous hops on the finish with a little alcohol. Very oily mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Very good beer.

2009 version. Pours deep amber into a snifter. Off-white head recedes to coat surface leaving spotted sheets. Sweet caramel and orange aromas. Full with sweet caramel and dark berries upfront turning quickly to alcohol and a slight resin grapefruit finish.

Bottle from Wine and Cheese. Didn’t get the can. My bottle is 2009. Pours light amber with a frothy 3-finger beige head. Spicey caramel aroma. Full bodied with frothy carbonation. Flavor is malty. It’s also nutty, fruity and spicey. Pretty flavorfull overall. Finishes fruity. A very refreshing barley wine- if any barley wine is refreshing, this is the one.

2007 vintage, courtesy of Glouglouburp - thanks, Dany! Slightly cloudy amber pour, with most carbonation fading quickly. Strong aroma of dark berries, autumn apples, a bit of fig and clove in the finish. The body is fairly moderate, but there’s a lingering warmth to it that makes the finish a bit longer than it might otherwise be. Flavor is somewhat on the sweet side, but that’s certainly appropriate given the style and the malt-forward profile of the beer. Not bad.

341ml. bottle aged for 2 years. The color is a hazy orange with little head. The aroma of barley and malt is very strong. The taste also of malt, wheat and sweet caramel and figsand or plums. This beer gives you a very warm feeling. The aftertaste is long lasting.

2009 bottle. Poured a delightful amber with big head and lots of carbonation. Lots of peach, apricot on the nose. In the mouth it is a little subdued. Medium bodied. Well made but not terribly complex even at a young age. Expensive too. Good but not great.

(Vintage 2009) An aroma that has hints of peach, sugar, and a touch of alcohol. Pours a clear reddish-amber, with a huge tightly packed off-white head. Sweet flavor, with a touch of nuts. Decent mouthfeel, although there’s a bit of a metallic characteristic at the very end of the finish. Not bad, but a bit overpriced.
