This really reminded me of Avery’s Hog Heaven. A little too much grapefruit for my taste. I wish it was slightly more balanced.

From the bottle, sweet caramel malts, toffee with a hop bite, definitely get some citrus flavor. Good stuff!

From a 22 oz bottle shared on the road in South Carolina. Pours a hazy amber with a massive creamy off white head. Sweet hoppy aroma. Flavors of caramel and some grassy hops. Really nicely put together. Tasty.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma. Malt and grapefruit flavor with light caramel. Medium bodied. Malt and grapefruit linger with light caramel.

Had this on 01/30/13 at James’ apt. Thanks to whoever brought. Pour is a "bourbony" dark red-brown with not much head. Aroma is of booze and wood. Flavors of dried dark fruits with notes of brown sugar/molasses. Light- to medium-bodied.

22oz. Bottle. 2013 orange wax. Pour is a rich mahogany with off white head. Aroma of caramelized malt and fruity cherry notes. Flavor is very smooth and balanced. Cherries, caramel, with hints of chocolate and brandy. Dangerously drinkable at 12% abv.

2009 bottle. Pours golden orange with a small white head. The nose is big caramel, citrus, pine and sweet bread. The taste is high sweet and bitter. Perfect balance with age. The texture is smooth but has some late pop. The body is heavy and the finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour clear amber. One of pine hop, slight catty, and some caramel malt. Taste of grapefruit, pine, then malt sweetness, and alcohol, followed by strong mid palate bitterness and nice long finish. More hoppy than most barleywines, a nice example.

Barleywines are not my favorite style of beer. Usually, they’re much too sweet and too boozy to really work for me. That said, Behemoth is easily one of the best I’ve tried. It is sweet, but not cloyingly so. I don’t feel like I’m drinking medicine or something. And though I can feel the alcohol, the beer isn’t dominated by an underlying hard liquor element. This is a beer I might actually drink again sometime. Pours a rather hazy, brownish-yellow, with minimal, quickly dissipating head. There’s a fruity, hoppy aroma and the flavor is a bitter-sweet combination of malt and hops, with a satisfying mouthfeel and bitter finish. My bottle had orange wax on it (2013?).
