COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

Can 2011 & 2014 2014: canned. Pours pitch black with a nice tan head. Aroma is rich intense chocolate, coffee, slight booziness, lots of roasted malts. Flavor is lots of chocolate, coffee bitterness. Roasted and fresh. More crisp. Nice mouthfeel. 2011: canned. Pours super pitch black (one of the darkest beers I’ve seen). No head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, lots of booze, less roastedness. Almost barrel aged. Way more complex than the 2014. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, and a longer coffee finish. Little bit of oak, maybe some vanilla in there too. It’s a little cleaner, and smoother, a little more refined. Little bit more booziness. Nice mouthfeel. Spot on. Better one? Probably the 2011. 3 years does this beer good. But the fresh one is awesome and looks a little better.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Black body with no head or lacing. Surprisingly mild aroma of espresso, roasted malts and treacle. Flavour is quite restrained but well balanced - notes of raisins, dark chocolate and boozy prunes. Full body with a slick texture. Lively fizz. An ugly beer but outrageously drinkable for the strength.

On tap at Beer Culture in NYC. Has a nice brownish had. Aroma is quite subdued with some hints of coffee. Flavor is bold but not overwhelming. Coffee and chocolate mostly with overtones of hops. Drinkable and warming, but not a huge hit for me.

Consistenza oleosa, piena, corpo lungo.

A black beer with a medium brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, ash, and chocolate. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, and licorice. So thick, it’s like drinking melted ice cream.

Poured from can into snifter. Deep dark brown, with light brown head that diminishes to a ring around the top. Lots of chocolate in the nose. More sweet and bitter chocolate flavors, with a little bit of booziness evident. Almost perfect creamy feel. Really really good beer, definitely lives up to its reputation.

Simplemente Deliciosa!

This was one of the most photogenic pours I’ve ever seen. Wish I’d been ready with the camera. Out of the can into a stout glass a stream of the darkest brown liquid I’ve seen, topped with a thick, dense, chocolate brown foam. It actually flowed out of over the edges of the glass...reminiscent... The aroma is heady, thick and chocolate, accents of boozy vanilla permeate the air. First sip, second sip, third sip; extremely consistent and flavorful as hell. The taste is lightly boozy, the ABV very well screened by the drinkability of the beer, and the creamy, thick body coats my entire mouth with a nutty chocolate. The next time I buy a can of this, it will be two so that I can use one in a Ten Fidy float. Wow. The finish is beautiful, body full, and carbonation is heavy enough to carry this to a delightful end; definitely not too light to leave it flat by the end of the glass. The foam is dropping heavy into the beer after every quaff and is thick and rich, the flavor is amazing and this may actually have been worth the ridiculous price I paid for it. Yup...going back for two more.
