BuckeyeBoy (1442), Boise, Idaho, USA May 19, 2009 Bottle of sort pours out brown with no head. Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, and that 19.5%. Tast was cardboard, vanilla, and sweetness. I will say I am glad I got to try it. Thanks Toby ditmier (729), Boise, Idaho, USA May 10, 2009 Bottle of unknown orgin - Thanks Toby -
Pours a flat copper with no head...aroma is chemically dominated, vanilla extract, slight maple and some roast...flavour is similarly odd, thin with no carbonation, boozy roast, vanilla, liquid smoke...consistency of 20%ABV water...only redeamable quality is the sweet bottle... Adam77 (402), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Apr 24, 2009 Needed help. Love this bottle. Poured brown with no head. As it looked in the bottle. Aroma of maple syrup, meat, and booze. Sweet maple flavor upfront with some smoke. Finished with this crazy alcohol burn. Yikes. Wild. mabel (2208), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2009 [1968-20090124] 390mL bottle. Smoked ham/bacon and campfire and Christmas Eve dinner aroma. Murky, dark brown amber body with no head. Sweet honeyed ham booze flavour has campfire throughout. Full thick body. Good.
Overheard: "It’s a little pork product." "It was made in Hamel."
(Bottle #788/1000; @ Cole’s; Buffalo, NY) Immy (1902), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Mar 11, 2009 390 ml corked bottle, just like the pic. Thanks to gputty for sharing.Murky brown and flat as a board, as one would expect. Big sweet nose, malty and woody, brown sugar and light maple. Thinner body, near watery. Sweet and boozy - lots of malt and brown sugar, molasses, a bit of honey. This was disappointing - like they crossed up a SATB and Utopias, but something bad happened. It’s not a complete waste, but I find it amazing that this is as highly rated as it is, while people crap all over SATB. Whatever. blankboy (2939), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 5, 2009 Bottle at ’Cole’s Rare Beer Fest’, Buffalo, NY. Pours and oily dark orange with no head. Nice aroma of sticky toffee, honey, alcohol and hops. Flavour’s a bit disappointing after that aroma, there’s something odd about it, along with the stuff named in the aroma I also get some smoky maple bacon. Average to medium bodied. Sticky mouthfeel. Pretty good overall. HogTownHarry (3673), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 29, 2009 Bottle At Cole’s Rare Beer Fest, January 2009. I think this varies from bottle to bottle - I know jerc and rudolf rated from a different bottle than my sample. Poured MURKY - thick, cloudy deep brown, smallish head - but I love non-clear beer - looked fantastic to me. Sweet, lightly smokey aroma, lushly nutty, not too boozy - really reminded me a lot of the Apis Jadwiga, definitely honey in there. The taste seemed drier, more alcohol-forward - buckwheat honey, seriously roasted malt, some balancing herbal bitterness, decidedly alcoholic, but to my palate very well balanced - quite warming. Thick, still mouthfeel, slightly alcohol-dry and astringent, with a long, sweet malty finish - sooooo good ("ham"? HAM? - you must have had a different bottle) ... only minor quibble, I’d like the herbal character to last a little longer, but I’d buy a bottle of this in a heartbeat. jerc (3625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 28, 2009 2009-01-24. Hazy dark amber body, headless. (3+) Sweet aroma is a bit smoky, like honey ham or sweet smoked pecans. Flavour is quite different with a tangy malt, very mild smoky undertones, light bitterness throughout. Tangy fruit character. Bit odd to be honest but kind of interesting. (7+) Smooth average to medium bodied palate. An experience. Bottle 788 of 100, Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo
