COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed in the early 19th century for export from Britain to the imperial court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, imperial stouts are characterized by their dark color & full body. This style features a rich, malty sweetness coupled with aggressive hopping (especially in American interpretations). Notes of dried fruit as well as roasted malt flavors are typically present.

Bottle conditioned Feb 2015, hence aged review. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a dark brown color with a semi-frothy off white to tan head. Slim little lacing slides into the beer. The smell had a ton of dark sweet fruits coming about into a dry to roasty and semi-bitter chocolate. The taste was dry and roasty with the dark fruits laying down a light sweetness, decent in the flavor. Dry roasty aftertaste and sliding into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sessionable sweet to bitter feel about it. Carbonation has fallen off, but I get it and am not worried. Overall, imperial stout, is it supposed to be a Russian or an American Double? I’m left scratching my beard and hoping I’ll get to try fresh soon enough. Almost seems unfair for the moment, but I’ll come back and update once I find fresher.

Dark black. Creamy beige head. Very roasted. Rich. Kind of hoppy for a stout. Pretty dynamic and rich. Easy drinking for an Imperial Stout.. Sipped this while hearing the Rams are moving to LA. Good riddance Stan Kroenke. Thx johnnnniee.

22 oz. bottle, consumed on 1-10-16. Labeled “FEB. 2015 ABV 10.5%.” Pours an opaque, dark brown with a small to moderate amount of taupe head. Pretty ordinary stout appearance. Complex, sophisticated, malty aroma. Scents of chocolate, crème brulee, kumquat, watermelon, and lime. I did not expect the fruit scents, but I do enjoy them. Very much a dessert beer in aroma. Really a lot going on in the smell. Heavily roasted malt flavor at the start but calms down into a very well balanced imperial stout taste. Surprising, citric flavor element: Orange. Dark chocolate and prune. Alcohol taste noticeable. Roasted malt aftertaste. Alcohol heat in the back of the throat. Lively and oily in the palate. Medium to full body, actually a little light given the high ABV. A good imperial stout and a very good beer overall. A lot going on and all of it is good.

Bottle pour into nonic glass from brewery. Aroma is bready, caramel malt with dark fruit and a hint of chocolate. Appearance is dark blackish brown, almost opaque with transient light brown head that quickly dissipates. No sparkle, trace lacing that slides back down the glass. Taste is dark fruit with mild chocolate and alcohol taste (a bit like rubbing alcohol) and roasted bitterness at the end. Palate is full bodied with thick texture, low carbonation, bitter finish and warming effect in the stomach. Overall, this is nice but warmth of alcohol in stomach is undone by excessive presence in taste.

650 ml bottle. Pours out as black as crude with no light shown through at all. Small chestnut colored head with no lacing to speak of. Aroma was "sugared blueberries " per my son and I concur. Taste was a remarkably subtle blend of dried berries, malt and a pleasant alcohol bite at the finish. The palate is oily smooth and silky. Top ten!

650ml bottle. Pours dark brown, black with a good, mocha-colored head. Aroma is roast, liquorice, some chocolate. Taste is roasted, liquorice, lightly smoky even. Some chocolate and coffee. Fairly light. Turns a tad one-sided as it warms up.

Bouteille 650ml, gracieuseté de Stoned99, merci Alex! Couleur noire opaque, fine mousse moka foncée. Arôme de café, malt torréfié, alcool. Goût de malt torréfié, bonne amertume, café en arrière-goût. Carbonatation faible, corps moyen-dense.
