4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
An opaque, muddy body is crowned by a beautiful mocha head leaving the mug awash in picturesque lacing.
The aromas are of cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, and a definite sting of black coffee.
Nice, slightly sticky mouthfeel, with a definite swing towards bitter coffee grounds on the taste, rather than the chocolate of some other stouts I’ve experienced. I give it a slight ding, for a mild, hard to detect metallic finish, but it is there and keeping this one from scoring a 9.
Would I drink it again? You know it.

*from old note*
Bottle from systembolaget 2014, bottle probably from 2013 (10%)
A lots of hops in both aroma and taste. Obvious sweetness, but still not to much for beeing a IS - rather well balanced.
The bitterness is also there, but doesn’t stand out of the other tastes.
A lot of coffee and chocolate in the taste, a beer you can sip on quite a while. Not unique, but really well composed flavors together.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Spicy and resinous grapefruit aroma along with pine and strawberry. Opaque black with not quite clear, ruby highlights and a light brown cover that lasts. Chocolate and American hops flavour that is complex and balanced. Pine, grapefruit, dark chocolate, strawberry and assertive bitterness that balances the sweet, grainy malt. Medium full body, moderate carbonation, smooth.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours darker than the thought of a third Bush presidency with a thin cap the colour of golden sugar. Something slightly off & unwanted in the nose, an almost coppery scent. But don’t worry, this beer is pretty fantastic. Each sip brings an interesting combo of dark powered chocolate backed with a double-barrelled shot of fresh hops. In fact, it’s the chewy, resinous hops that make this imperial stand out from others on the shelf. The flavour here is full & round & a real case study in how to make a serious imperial stout.

Bottle from the Univercity Plaza LCBO. Pours an opaque colour, two finger solid khaki head that starts to die away leaving sheets of lace. Nose is sweet biscuity malt. Tastes sweet, malty, giving way to a slight bitterness, mainly chocolate flavour, a touch of vanilla, Abv burn. Really tasty.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from the LCBO. Deep mahogany pour with a small dark khaki head that fades slowly to a ring around the edge that leaves some thin lace. Nose is dominantly dark chocolate with coffee, dark fruits, light vanilla and some licorice. Roasty malts give a light sweetness throughout and medium bitter with coffee and chocolate contributing along with a decent level of hopping. Mouth is medium full and silky with soft carbonation . Long bitter finish. Nice stout that manages to conceal the alcohol quite well.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
220z bomber dated Feb 2015. Black in color with a oil-slick like viscosity as a small mocha head retreats to a ring around the edge. Lacing is evident as the coffee aroma dominates with each sip. Chocolate, dark fruits, and licorice are there too. Taste is made up of chocolate, licorice, dark fruits, and coffee being the most pronounced. Carbonated, thick and smooth, and extremely drinkable. Earthy hops finish off the palate with a slightly dry bitterness that helps to complete this beauty of an Imperial Stout!
