Nice. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 4, 2009 Bottle at Chriso pre GBBF tasting 09. Black, very dark brown colour. Really good impy stout, bit grainy, but not overly boozy, I really quite like it. Malty rather than grainy. Cool jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Oct 3, 2009 Pours black with thin tan head. Minimal lacing. Aroma of licorice and chocolate. Taste has tons of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt. Too thin. Decent but was expecting more. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 20, 2009 Long lasting tan head gives a little creamy texture. Aroma has some toasty almond and a little bit of musty yeast. Flavor is less complex than what I was expecting after the view and the aromas. A little hot as it leaves a bit of purple fruit and sweetness on the finish. Before all of that though is a full bodied lightly roasted malt experience. Decent drink but would like a little more complexity from an impy stout. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Sep 19, 2009 Thanks to Atlbeerdog for this one. Black body. Aroma of chocolate and light coffee. Flavor of chocolate, light roast, brown sugar, molasses, and a lactic touch. corby112 (677), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 19, 2009 Poured into a wide snifter, pitch black and completely opaque with not even the slightest hint of lighter edges when held to a light source and a MASSIVE three finger pillowy coffee and cream colored head that has amazing retention, barely fading at all and coating the glass with lare chunks of soapy lacing on the way down. One of the best looking beers I’ve ever seen.
Roasty chocolate malt aroma with hints of licorice, oatmeal, espresso bean, burnt toast, toffee, sweet alcohol and anise.
Surprisingly hop forward with a very roasty, yet slightly watered down body. I was expecting this to be much more chewy and viscous based on the appearance but was quite let down. Flavor is dominated by roasted chocolated malt and burnt toast with some spicy anise/clove notes, caramel, toffee, oatmeal and dark fruit notes. Very dry and kind of one dimensional with a good bit of alcohol warmth in the finish.
