ScoWRee (203), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a huge fluffy tan head. Aroma of yeast, dark fruit,, plum, Rasains.Taste is sweet.Creamy. Hints of molassas, dark fruits. Very nice. shalloWMeans (92), Fort Thomas, Kentucky, USA May 7, 2008 This one was sampled directly after the sixteen, which may have taken away from it’s score a bit. This was a very tasty and complex brew, but wasn’t quite as good. It poured very dark, and had a strong scent of roast malt and hop bitterness. Host Rick Swarez explained Unibroue’s attempt to brew a more distinctly intense and bitter ale, whereas the sixteen was an attempt to show off their well developed use of yeast and paler malts. Overall, not bad. But less drinkable than expected. ABUSEDGOAT (1786), California, USA May 6, 2008 Dark cloudy brown pour, moderate head with solid lacing and retention. Aroma is pretty interesting, their usual character, but also with a candy like sweetness. Yeast, dark sugar and fruit, the usual goods are all here for the style. Medium to full body, quite sweet, high carbonation. Very enjoyable flavors, but carbonation was a bit much for my liking. ajm (210), USA May 6, 2008 Guilty pleasure of the blackcurrant Ephemere aside, this is probably the best Unibroue I have yet had. Definitely the best anniversary ale I’ve had. Very dark, very fruity - but oddly not dark fruits. mmm///beer (404), Austin, Texas, USA May 5, 2008 750mL bottle poured into tumbler- poured slightly transparent brownish amber, huge off brown head with ALOT of lacing, medium carbonation. Aroma of dark malt, lab quality sucrose, yeast, and various sweetened fruit (blackberries, bananas, and blueberries to name a few). HIts the mouth with a medium body, the fruit notes do translate but not as well as the 16 version (aging?), some hard fruit (almost a cider quality) hit the tongue in the middle, finish is crisp and lingering, alcohol has a sidenote. A little letdown- but I’ll have to let one age like the 16 version was when I drank it a few hours ago. Good, but could be better.
