COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.2% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Draft @ Gillys in Rockville. Jet black hue with a thin ring of tan head. Aroma is through the roof amazing; creme brûlée with caramelized sugar, molasses, milk chocolate, vanilla, faint hints of roast and grassy hops. Flavor is very much vanilla and custard cream up front wig a rich underlying layer of caramel and roast cocoa malts, maple syrup, pecans, and brown sugar in the middle with light grassy bittering hops, finishes very sweet and sugary like a dessert. Full body, light carbonation, creamy texture. A hidden gem, I didn’t even notice Gillys served beer on draft until I was literally out the door; the "extremely limited" sign alerted me and the tiny taster drew me in for a full draw; absolutely amazing and full of flavor, a pinnacle of craft beer complexity and depth; great as a sipping after-dinner drink, wish I could have gotten this in a bottle. New Top 10 for me!

Draught at Plan B, København, Denmark.
Reddish dark brown colour with small light tan head. Aroma is toffee, caramel and heavy sweetness but most of all Crème Brûlée big time. Flavour is coffee, sweet toffee, caramel, chocolate, bitter hops and malt. Very much dessert beer.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel covered liquorice candy and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, chocolate, caramel covered liquorice, alcohol, and coconut.

Had a 16oz on tap at Lionheart Pub in Downtown Albany NY for $5

Looks like a typical stout. Pitch black body. Dark foamy head. Not much lacing, though.

Smells like pure vanilla extract. Reminds me of a bakery. Some rum-like booze scent.

Tastes just like it smells. All vanilla all the time! Based one the actual creme brûlée dessert, this beer comes damn close. Tastes like cake or cookies but with a smooth, dry, warm rum finish. Leaves me thirsty for a glass of milk. Very tasty, but I think some of their other beers mask the booze better.

Mouthfeel isn’t quite as thick or intense as you’d think. Full bodied beer for sure.

Drinks pretty well considering how rich it is and how potent it is at 9.2% ABV. Significant boozy aftertaste though. Alcohol becomes more prominent as it warms. Vanilla flavor holds up though.

Overall a great dessert beer but it’s difficult to drink more than 6-10 oz at a time (the double edged sword of rich beers).

Aroma
Caramel frappachino, hints of banana’s foster, very sweet
Appearance
Bone colored fluffy head floats on a orange red dark black body, leaving loose lacing, fluffy sheet eventually fades
Taste
Créme brûlée, caramel frappachino, very litteral flavors as it warms, very sweet
Palate
Medium body with low carbonation, sweetness slows this one down, body and alc are very drinkable
Overall
Interesting dessert, fairly one dimensional, considering the low serving temp, I’m thinking a scoop of ice cream should do well with this one after it has warmed

Vanilla pudding aroma.
Very sweet.
Chclt-malt no-hops not-burnt.
Very full body, med co2.
Too sweet for size, too one dimensional.
Actually tastes like creme brûlée or nilla wafers.
