Aroma of toasted malts, toffee with light hops. Tastes of toasted malts, burnt caramel, noble hops, nuts, light vanilla. Balanced very well and finishes with some hop bitterness. Notes of sweet potato, apples, chocolate, and spice. Almost an imp porter. ElDuderino (136), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle, pours a muddy brown body with a thick creamy tan head. Nose was kinda suble with toffee notes and some light toasted nuts. Flavors of deep rich toffee and candied pecans, light airy malts and heavy hops notes that kept the flavors crisp, clean and tight. The sugar transfer in this beer seems so clean and smooth, as the body is just heavenly on the pallate. Light sweet malts with just a hint of carbonation and just a dab of alcohol soak really make this a special beer. Nice dark color with a tan head. Nose is sweet and malty. Chewy, chocolately, very malty, and sweet. A bit alcoholic but not overwhelming for the big ABV. Consumed with BBB63 while passing out candy to tricker treaters. pours a deep brown with a tan head. notes of medicine, caramel, chocolate, coffee. seems like cigar city has a yeast strain that produces some medicinal notes. Seems to be a common denominator in many of their beers. TeamTrappist (367), jericho, New York, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle, thanks Jason. Poured a rich mahogany with a slight bubbly head. Nose was vanilla, Carmel, and a hint of alcohol and rich malts. Very bubbly mouthful. This is full flavored beer. Hints of vanilla big malts and a bit of an alcohol bite. Really big beer for a brown ale. Be interested how this would do with some age. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Oct 30, 2009 Well, this is a helluva beer. The aroma is very good; lots of malty and sweet components. This kind of heavy brown malt has a slight sourish quality, like wet, fermenting walnut. Really strong notes of smoke and tobacco in the aroma, and slight acidity in the flavor to accompany. Malty all over and then some hop astringency, again and again, in a full-bodied beer. Carries carbonation excellently. Well made, hefty. Extremely flavorful, fresh, and reeks of being handmade.
My only complaint is the ABV. Not subtle and detracts from being able to enjoy fully. Slightly sugary yet coffee-acid, overly roasty ending.
