COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Melange #3 is a blend of three bourbon barrel aged strong ales. White Oak Sap, a wheat wine, our Anniversary Series old ale and our imperial stout, Black Tuesday, join forces in this luxurious strong ale that links some of the best characteristics of each of the contributing beers. Chocolate, dark fruits, oaky vanilla and rich toffee-like character reach through the bourbon veneer for an intensely satisfying quaff.

Drought. Inky black with small foamy beige head, strong oak aroma, low carbonation, strong and sweet bourbon taste with sharp wood flavor, low carbonation, long finish with woody aftertaste. This is a great blend but the overpowering oak aroma is a bit too much.

750 ml bottle shared with the Quebec City crew. Pours a ruby reddish brown with a short lived whitish-beigeish head. Aroma is roast, coffee, prune, fig and caramel. Flavor is prune, fig, cherry, chocolate, loads of dirty caramel, port wine and some booze. Finish is chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, with lingering wood and booze. Medium to full body, soft, velvety mouthfeel, weak carbonation. A very solid brew.

Bottled @ Zeebra#2. 10cl sample. The aroma has bourbon, raisin, maple sirup, sweetness. Brown coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is sweet, has raisin, dark fruits, some chocolate, bourbon and a hint of pepper. Nice one.

Bottle shared with the epic. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, cookies, and vanilla oak. Pours typical Bruery muddy flat brown. Taste is tootsie roll chocolate, vanilla oak, bourbon, slight black cherry, and mince meat. Just delicious and not over the top sticky. Nice blend.

750 ml bottle. Pours a clear rich dark caramel brown with lasting poofy off white beige edge head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, sweet malt, light roast, and a pleasant bourbony smokiness. Flavor is a delicious smooth complex combination: same as above, with dark fruits. Alcohol well masked for a near 17%. One of my Bruery favorites.

Bottle (’11 or ’12; not sure). Murky dark brown pour with no head. Bourbon, dense raisin and toffee, light fruit and some alcohol spice. Taste is heavy bourbon with vanilla and thick, sweet raisins, dates, and trailing alcohol heat. Coating mouthfeel. Really nice sipper.

jcos (1527) - Maryland, USA - MAY 30, 2014
Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave and Ben on 5/23/2014.

Appearance:Pours a dark black brown.
Aroma: Aroma of chocolate, bourbon.
Taste: Boozy, chocolate, bourbon, oak.
Palate:Over medium body, alcohol is present.

Summary: Really glad I got to try this. The high abv makes it rough to have more than a split of, but that is okay. Really interesting mix.

Bottle share at my house. Snifters. Pours a very dark, opaque with a mild short-lived head. The aroma is powerful with caramel, malts, dough, booze, yeasts, hay, and oak. The taste is very complex with oak barrel, malts, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, toffee, nuts, and leather. Full body, chewy finish of chocolate, caramel, oak, and booze. Mild carb, serious flavors.

Location: 750 ml bottle shared with dbarnold and jcos, 5/23/14

Aroma: The nose is rich, with some toffee, chocolate, bourbon, oak, and roasted malts
Appearance: Has a murky brown pour with a small off-white head and mild lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, rich, malty, and boozy, a little sweet, mid-hot finish
Palate: The body is full, it has a rich feel, and you can certainly feel the big ABV
Overall Impression: I really enjoyed this one, but at the same time, I’m pretty happy not to be drinking a full bottle myself. You can tell very easily that this one is big on the ABV all the way through.

This was from the bottle sharing at Dark Lord Day 2014. It was sampled right after the Melange #3 and was even better. Poured into my sample glass it was dark red tending toward black. Tan head. Nose of chocolate, dark ripe fruit, vanilla, wood, and hops. Bold body. Creamy mouthfeel with alcohol. Flavor is chocolate and the dark ripe fruit and all the other stuff is there...booze, vanilla and floral hops. Really rich and tasty but 2 oz was enough.
