COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours black with a small head that stays to the end. Aroma is very rich and complex: chocolate, wood, vanilla and of course whiskey. Taste is dominated by bourbon and barrel notes, vanilla. Medium, soft carbonation, very good beer.

Draft at TBBT. Half pour into goblet. Nose is lightly smokey with some dark chocolate. Medium sized brown head. Black in color. Nice lacing. Taste is moderately tart indicating there is some non sacch fermentation. Not horsey tho. Not much too much barrel component other than the smoke and a light vanilla. Overall tasty.

Pitch black-body with a tiny, short-lived, medium brown head that disappears almost completely, but the viscous-looking pour and the lovely colour saves the Appearance. Extraordinarily inviting, sweet, malty and very strong aroma of massive chocolate: dark chocolate, bitter chocolate and chocolate sauce. The beer doesn’t try to hide the fact that it has been aged in whisky barrels: I get lots of lovely notes of gentle whisky, without much peat. Also vanilla, and an overall vinous feel, even with some hints of port. Finally I pick up notes that remind me of lactic sugar, in a milk stout way? Strong flavour of chocolate, dark caramel, gentle whisky, dark dried fruits and a bit too much alcohol. In the back the sweet vanilla further increases the complexity of this brew. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. The mouthfeel is actually a bit of a letdown, it beer feels far thinner than it looks, and the texture is less oily than expected. In lack of a better word I’d call it a bit watery... The finish is light dry, and the carbonation is soft. A brilliant beer with an amazing aroma and wonderful flavour, but a bit too alcoholic for such a "low" ABV beer, and I would have wanted a fuller body and a thicker and more oily texture.
[33 cl bottle, bottle no 04472, enjoyed 3 years after bottling, from Vinmonopolet Vika (R.I.P.), Oslo]

Bottle. Oily pour, small head. Aroma of cacao, smokey peat and salty licorice. Nice taste of peat, smoke, coffee, iodine and salt. Mouthfeel is smooth, body a bit thin. Good, but I expected more.

Bottle thanks to Paul. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, and oak. Thin mouth, peat, oak, roast, boozy finish, very good.

Deep black colour with little to no head. Aroma is whiskey, liquorice, and toasted malt. Taste is a bitter sweet balance with a smoky aftertaste.

Had this immediately aftet the Ola Dubh 12 and can say the previous on3 is better. Not to say this is a bad beer, but it has a sweet taste and after taste which are a bit of turn off, unless you likeit like that. Still not a bad beer at all. Clove
