The beer scene is exploding here in Vancouver, how many new breweries opened in the last 12-18 months???
And also there seems to be new bars with a decent number of craft beers (2 Tap & Barrel, 3 Rogue, Craft Beer Market and more).

This is good news, and in the last weeks, also thanks to the Alibi 500 Party, there were really many new beers every week

Well, chasing all of them would be complicated, but at least we can try to track the new and most interesting arrivals,

with some contribution by everybody

Cheers!

I should have posted this Friday, when I came across the Bridge Wunderbar Kölsch at the brewery; I really want to mention this because the aroma is so harmonious and subtle, with a light crispy body, that this beer deserves to be tasted.
I’ve been only once in Cologne, for a weekend, and kölsch is not my favorite beer anyway, but I would dare saying that the Bridge one seems to be a correct interpretation.

Hopefully it’s still available.

The Brassneck Dead Pan is also a very good example of Altbier.

At Alibi a few days ago they had the Fuggles & Warlock vs. Big River Handsome West Coast IPA.
F&W apparently is a recent brewfirm (we have already seen their Alameda Super 8-bit IPA last year); the Handsome is quite good, hopefully we will see more from them, without having to wait one year again ;-)
If you missed it, Rogue @Waterfront Station may have tapped a keg this weekend (or soon).

And maybe it’s time to visit Central City:
they have a new Imperial Stout (already seen at Alibi just before the party), a Black IPA/CDA, the Irish Ale, and a Copper Ale.

Check the shop as well; usually better prices than near Vancouver and good selection: a few beers from Alberta’s Lazy Mutt, Caldera Kettle Series Hopportunity Knocks, Rogue Farms 7 Hop IPA and more of course...

Central City, which is 4 blocks from me, has Imperial Stout,Imperial Porter, Imperial IPA, Irish Red, Thor’s Hammer, ISA. I was there Wed, they didn’t have a black IPA at that point.

I think it was called CDA, but I didn’t pay much attention because I already had it at Alibi.

Can’t believe how busy Brassneck was when I stopped in, but I managed to try everything they had on offer between me and some friends grabbing a sample bat. Good form.

I know Storm has an extra high abv monster (read 2^5%) tucked in the back, James might pull a sip for you if you ask him nice ;)

Probably my favourite brewery to visit in Vancouver.

Green Leaf was also worth the look, it’s about 100 metres from the Seabus terminal in North Van, right inside the Lonsdale Quay Market. Really cool to see a tasting room and brewery completely integrated with the local market, and the beer is quite solid too. ( See you’ve been there fiulijn, but for those in the dark about them :P )

I’ll be there tomorrow, I will find out for sure. They also still have lots of Thor’s in the bottle at the liquor store

Talked to Gary today regarding the CDA. They DO have one but none of the brewers are happy with it , so they aren’t really advertising it much. They feel the roast quality is a bit too much.I thought it was great !!
On another note I could meet you one day there, or somewhere else close. Let me know next time u r in the area.

I will let you know!
Now that I moved to Vancouver should be easier than in the past; Sunday I was there just for half hour while my better half was with a friend in Burnaby...
But for example if you announce that they have a new one, I may be even more motivated
