t seems like I will find myself in Bugaria for a few days next month. Does anyone have any (updated) info on beers, brewpubs, the beer scene in Sofia in general?
Googling is more difficult when they use an alphabet that is unfamiliar!

I have no idea, but on the bright side you can write up a report for anyone else looking at venturing there for travel. Maybe you’d be more surprised without a beer itinerary, let the life and locals lead the way. No ratings, ahh well, you’ve still been to Bulgaria!!!
Prost,
Dan

If you’ll visit Sofia, do check out this... http://ratebeer.com/Ratings/Beer/ShowBrewer.asp?BrewerID=5498<

Hmm... almost nothing that’s not on rb is mentioned anywhere. Pri Kmeta is the only brewpub I can trace.
There’s some "microbrewery" called B’lborg (Бълборг) in Trud... (I put the link only cos of the pic ;)) It’s not on RB. http://www.eunet.bg/bgnews/show_story.html?issue=255259808&med

Found also this on nubo.ru.
Установлен он в помещении ресторана на склоне горы Витоша. Наверное, это самый высокий над уровнем моря пивзавод, который лично я посетил за свою жизнь. В последние годы ресторан не работает, но пивзавод (оборудован

It’s a bout some microbrewery on mount Vitosha (near Sofia) that used to be a brewpub but lost the "pub" part, and now just brews beer (HBH style) and the beers’ available at some bar called Luchano (in Sofia I guess). Then it says that the "only beer collectioner in Sofia, Ludmila Fotev, loves their dark beer"...

I’d highly recommend you familiarize yourself with the alphabet, though. I’d be suprised if you could find much of anything without it. It only takes a few hours.

That too. Heck, if I managed to teach myself the Cyrillic alphabet from a picture book without any help when I was 6 years old...

Another relevant link (in Bulgarian, so of little use to you). http://www.underlog.org/beer/
Still, it helped me find the adress of that Luchano bar with the HBH beer.

Easy for a Croatian to say...

Yes and no. Most, nearly all people my age (even older) can’t read it, have few places to learn it from and no real reason to learn it.
But yes, it was easier for me because the "Standard Croatian language" is similar, almost identical, in a lot of aspects to "Standard Serbian language", and because there was that ancient picture book in Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (and, obviously, in Serbian) at my grandparents’ place. I would identify and name the animals on the pictures, and so decypher what was written below them in Cyrillic alphabet...
I was just seconding your statement that it’s easy to learn.
Googling is tricky even for me because I have to copypaste the characters (I lost the Unicode .txt files I made that contained Cyrillic, Georgian and Armenian alphabets).

Thanks a lot, Marko. There is a distinct possibility that I’ll be in Croatia for a week this summer. If so, I’m sure there will be a box in the mail for you.
(If the package mail from Bulgaria to Croatia is cheap, tell me soon...)
