ust in case there are other unknown victims, I feel a need to report that I received 3 "fake" BA AleSmith bottles in a trade recently.

They are known fakes because the numbering is incorrect and they had the regular silver foil toppers. So essential, they are just regular bottles with a white marker numbering on the back.

Peter Zien (of AleSmith), the trader, and myself have been in communication regarding how these bottles came about and there is no clear answer.

I’m just posting this in case there are other fake BA bottles out there and if so, please BM me.

Because of this issue, AleSmith is starting new labels for future BA releases instead of just writing on regular bottles.

The trader will not be mentioned as it is not clear how these bottles came about. And no bad rep to AleSmith as it is highly unlikely they sold these bottles.

Finally, I’d just like to say thanks to Peter of AleSmith for being a class act regarding the whole issue.

BA Wee Heavy, BA ON, BA Decadence 05 (which is actually Decadence 06). Yes, the bottles have "regular" AleSmith beer inside. 10/31/2007 10:59:42 AM

I’ve been saying for a while that faking rare beer will become a reality. Would someone even be able to tell if that Vertical Epic 02 they paid $400 on ebay was real? No way! An empty bottle and homebrew, with a carefully-removed Stone cap could easily fake that beer.

This is truly shitty to hear about, and I hope you guys figure out who is responsible.

So you’re saying the beer that was supposed to be BA Decadence ’05 was actually a bottle of the Decadence ’06 Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale that somebody just took a marker to so that they could make it look like it was a Barrel-Aged AleSmith beer? They didn’t even bother to make it an actual Decadence ’05??

Well unless there’s someone on here with more information it most likely won’t get figured out. I’ve started to move on and I’m not that pissed about it anymore. 10/31/2007 11:08:38 AM
