| savnac (57), Palmer, Alaska | | October 20, 2009 Pretty much got ignored for the first 20 minutes in the place. Finally got a seat at the bar and still got ignored for a while. The beer was pretty good but there really wasn’t that much for selection. Very bad pours on the beers. Grabbed a mixed 6 pack to go. Not sure I would go out of my way to go back. | | TreborWhip (12), Reading, Pennsylvania | | September 22, 2009 Nice little bar next to the brewery and in the restaurant (which we didn’t go into). Service was fast and friendly and, of course, they specialize in their home-brewed ales. I recommend any of the Fat Dog’s. | | f351c4v (77), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania | | July 1, 2009 Stopped by on a recent Saturday night for dinner with friends. Smallish pub area, but a large dining area affords visits by large groups. 6 or so common taps, a couple seasonals; unfortunately, the beer engine was kicked! I knew what to expect from the beers before I visited. If you aren’t familiar, make sure you try the IPA and Fat Dog. Food menu was dominated by choice cuts of meat. Burger was excellent! Great table service, knowledgable and quick. Place had more of a restaurant feel, when I was looking for a laid back brewpub (Selins Grove, or even Magnolia). Worth a stop, not far from the PA Turnpike. | | jmm635 (33), Havertown, Pennsylvania | | February 21, 2009 I have very mixed feelings about Stoudts brewery. I was there a little early for the tour and walked into the antique market. Entirely overwhelming and really out-of-place at the brewery (although necessary because according to the owner he’s not making money on the beer). Finally found my way out of the madness and made my way to the bar, where service was fast and friendly. Then, time for the tour, given by owner, Ed Stoudt. Not so much of a tour, but a 40 minute lecture on why you should not buy American national brand beers, especially anything with the word "light" in the title. While I completely agree, I thought I was going to get a tour of the brewery and learn what goes on back there. Still, Ed Stoudt is far from the worst person to spend an hour with. He was a really entertaining tour guide. My biggest complaint - no samples! How am I going to know what to buy to bring home with me?? I stayed after the tour for lunch... the brewpub is pretty interesting and the food is fairly | | BeerGestapo (14), Windsor, Pennsylvania | | September 1, 2008 On the way back from Capone’s myself and fellow Knight AFI96 stopped at Stoudt’s for a brew. We walked into the Oktoberfest hall / Beer garden, there was a small party going on there so we were escorted into the old fashion pub. The bar was full, but we did find a seat ordered our dunkelweizen and we were on our way. The staff was pretty friendly, nice old decor, and good food. Also there is a cool little German village right outside of the brewery. However, i must tell you something very funny. As we were leaving someone approached the car and asked if we wanted to come in and crash a baby shower........lol. I think this look-alike tranny was hitting on my friend. :) | | FanwickMike (33), | | August 23, 2008 stopped by on beer tour, 08/17/08. Had a fat dog imperial stout, then tried a sampler. Fat dog was excellent, all the other 6 beers were well made. Took brewery tour hosted by Ed Stoudt, but it was OK in spite of that. Did not eat there (except pretzels), friendly staff and patrons, nice decor, would visit again. | NJJereme (5), Saint Petersburg, Florida does not count - explanation | | June 28, 2008 Went to this place for a beer festival in August, ’06. Set up a la Oktoberfest in Germany, lots of tables, brats, sauerkraut, etc. People were friendly enough, good beer selection, bread was pretty killer. The outside area is great for bands and beer under tents. Great fun. | | TheCaptain (32), Lancaster, Pennsylvania | | June 1, 2008 Love the old world-German theme of Stoudts Brewery and restaurant. I was visiting here since I was in my teens going to the beer festivals with my family even before they started the brewing side of it as I remember. Good food, beer selection is great and just so fresh straight from the brewery. The bread baked fresh at the brewery is awesome! Service can be tedious, we have experienced lousy service here several times due to one thing or another. If your visiting the area it’s worth a stop, antique shopping everywhere. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | May 13, 2008 First the good, this is a really beautiful dining room. Red and gold painted tin ceiling. Lots of nice stained glass, cut mirrors, and a stunning restored car out in the entryway. The food is great, slightly upscale German pub fare, most of it including beer and it was deemed one of the favourite meals ever of my parents-in-law, neither of whom are beer drinkers at all. Now the bad... terrible service. Really, terrible. We got there on a busy day (mother’s day) so perhaps some confusion was inevitable, but rather than actually talk to us, they just ran around avoiding our eyecontact and our questions. I can’t say that I wouldn’t go back, but the people here need to learn how to treat people. Very unprofessional, IMO. | | machfive55 (21), Columbia, Pennsylvania | | April 28, 2008 Overall, I enjoyed Stoudt’s, but it was nothing to write home about. There are two parts of the restaurant, one is more of a bar food type joint, the other is really fancy, pricey. We sat in the bar food section. The food was pretty good, the wings are good and the prices were not outrageous in this part of the restarurant. The other side is prime rib and is really expensive.
They have a solid lineup of beers that are all good. This place is a little gem in this area. Never got to check out the rest of the complex. I would definately go back. |
