| MrBunn (67), Western, Pennsylvania | | April 22, 2012 This is a pretty cool and funky place in Akron that gets a nod everytime I’m in the area with the family. It’s kind of a Whole Foods for locals and hippies (rather than the yuppies who have infested most WF’s.) There is a neat little restaurant that has had live music most times I have been there and people are helpful and friendly. Beer selection is decent, but not great. They do a good job finding some local brews that don’t get good distribution, but most of the rest is widely distributed imports and domestics. | | jmikolich (45), Brunswick, Ohio | | December 21, 2011 well, I’ve been heading here occasionally for a couple years, and they have recently cut their selection in third or worse.. Still some neat finds, as I was here today they had a few lingering Dreadnaughts and some Double Bastards.. nothing really exceptional. I picked up a Arcadia Bourbon Barrel Porter and was on my way, still shelving 2010 Old stock ale, which is nice. Basic selection of belgians, your staples of the Ohio market such as thirsty dog siberian night and your Hoppin Frogs. This is cut way down from what they had at one point, down to 2 coolers and a 6ft shelf. from a full aisle. oh well its a good spot to try and find the off the beaten path ales that maybe the larger shops sold out of immediately. | | AwYeh (12), Canton, Ohio | | December 22, 2010 Organic grocery store with a unique beer selection. It’s pretty small, but they allow you to mix singles and make your own 6-pack (with prices conveniently posted above the beer display). Bombers are varied and there are some neat selections here; Hoppin Frog, as may be expected, is well represented, but I also saw Dogfather and Rogue 21, so moderate rarities (at least for Ohio) may come and go. | | OSLO (119), Ames, Iowa | | June 2, 2009 A Whole Foods type upscale market, with a decent selection of beers. The staff is friendly but don’t know what they are doing with the beer, and for some reason the foreign beers are in one aisle (warm) while the domestics are all in the coolers in another aisle. They have a variety of singles that you can choose from, and apparently (according to a worker that seemed less than certain), you can break up any six pack. Prices seemed pretty good, and domestic selection is ok. The main reason to stop here is to get a mixed six pack. | | Alerider (37), Indianapolis, Indiana | | February 7, 2008 Great selection of micros for a grocery store. Really, a hybrid of a health food store and supermarket. Worth a stop for either food or beverages. | | cking (26), North Canton, Ohio | | June 7, 2007 I remember my neighbor frequenting this place back in college and found myself in the area not too long ago so I had to back and check it out. They have a medium sized beer section on the shelves across from the wine in the same aisle. Here you can find lots of obscure imports including lots of Belgian brands along with Unibroue and the like. There are also some domestic craft brews situated here as well. Good mix of singles, four packs, and sixers. An aisle or two over next to the wall is the beer cooler. This is where you can find the majority of the American craft brews in chilled sixers along with singles. The beers are respectably priced and they have a great selection. Cool atmosphere it’s really a nice store all around good foods and the like. Service is OK if you need help there is one lady who is in charge of the alcohol and she seems to know enough to be helpful. I recommend it if you are in the area. | dharhay (6), Uniontown, Ohio does not count - explanation | | February 23, 2007 Very nice place with a decent beer list. The list has remained steady for quite a while now. All styles of beer can be bought here both warm and chilled. Great place for food, too. They are a martketplace with a natural style. | | f351c4v (77), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania | | April 23, 2006 Smallish organic grocery store. A decent selection of singles, ranging from Rochefort and Dupont to Three Floyds and Avery. Nice representation of UK offerings as well. Prices were excellent, by PA standards... | | donrajin (47), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina | | August 21, 2005 Much better than the stores around home (NC), but the selection was not as big as at Acme which was right around the coner. They did have some 3L bottles of Arrogant Bastard there which Acme didn’t have, but at $80 a pop I left them there. | | StewardofGondor (122), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | March 1, 2005 [ Updated July 8, 2005 ] I used to frequent this place when I lived in the area. Gave them a call recently to see if they’d put some Thirsty Dog beer on hold for my dad to pick up for me and they were very helpful and willing. You can get Thirsty Dog beers by the 6-pack or individually. I’ll have to scout out other beers they have in the store next time I’m in town. Good little restaurant in the upper level too. |
