heminator (7), Virginia does not count - explanation | | March 27, 2012 They do get some good stuff on draft here -- was pleased to get Founders Breakfast Stout right from the keg. For a small place the bottle list is good. Old Town is great neighborhood, but it always presents challenges in terms of parking and its a bit of a hike from the metro. I haven’t tried the food, but I’m rating it based on what I’ve heard from others -- so take my opinion there with a grain of salt. | | mansquito (32), washington, Washington DC | | March 23, 2012 Good location in Alexandria. Interior design is on the cheesy side. Ambiance is sorely lacking, but that is why I think I like it. Sitting in the bar area, it is so easy to ignore everyone around you and just pick up loads of dank beer.
The food is of high quality. They focus on using a minimum number of ingredients and choosing those of the best quality. Complimentary olives are pretty great too.
The Beer. The beer is expensive on not happy hour, but is cheap during happy hour. Half price. That means I can get awesome Belgian beers on tap for 5 bucks. American beers during happy hour will be even cheaper. The tap changes enough to keep things interesting. I went twice in one month and only one beer was the same. Cask beers are pretty cool as well. The best thing about this location is that there are more happy hour days than in in the Dupont location.
The people who work there are mad chill and know what a beer is. | | Brigadier (127), Bloomington, Indiana | | January 3, 2012 Spotty service knocks this down a few points. Visiting during Happy Hour it took about ten or fifteen minutes to get a beer. The food looked good but it was a little expensive ($17.95 for a large gourmet - in line with most other similar places).
The selection was impressive enough for me to stick around and give it a shot. A mixture of locals from Starr Hill, Olde Richmond, and Port City were complemented by a couple of Belgians. Overall I would check this place out. The biggest problem may be parking; if you can catch the Metro to Old Town and use the trolley instead. | | radagast83 (80), Fairfax, Virginia | | January 2, 2012 This is a pretty well placed restaurant located in downtown Old Town Alexandria. Parked a few blocks away, walked there. The place was packed - both the bar and the front part of the restaurant. Friends had a table so didn’t have to wait through that mess.
I’ve just been here for happy hour, so I haven’t had any of the food - I suspect it’s as good as it looks. Beer selection was very nice, though both their beer menu and their board was woefully out of date (and neither matched) when I went there on Veterans Day. | | BeerandBlues2 (358), Lone Tree, Colorado | | April 16, 2011 A nice, open place in Old Town, though it can be very loud when they are busy; there is nothing to absorb the sound. The pizzas are good, and the choices varied, though the crust is a bit brittle. The beer selection is solid, and rotates regularly. Service is great, with everyone being attentive and caring about your experience. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | December 30, 2010 Nice place in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Friendly staff, great locals. of course, the usual well-chosen beer list from Greg Jasgur. This one has a better bar space that the Dupont location, but not quite as good as the Georgetown location. Definitely the top beer location in Alexandria,, and possibly in Virginia. |
