April 18, 2008 [ Updated August 10, 2008 ] This is a new venture from Wyn & Paul, the guys who run the drankecentrale import business. When I visited, the place wasn’t formally opened (hence no phone number and no sign outside) but Wyn & Paul had invited Ronald Mengerink of De Dochter van de Korenaar to meet some local beer enthusiasts and Mes tipped me the wink. Must seem a little odd to be located about three doors down the street from Wyn’s old place, La Trappiste. It is in the basement of the Fat Loaf restaurant and you enter through a side door. I imagine this will be a lot more apparent once the place is 100% operational. Over 200 beers, mainly Belgian, should be available, with some rarities for the UK - Slaapmutske, De Dochter van de Korenaar, Urthel, Achilles - not surprising as Wyn imports these - and a full range of Cantillon. Can only be an excellent addition to the UK Belgian beer scene as too many specialist bars carry the same range of, mainly mainstream Belgian, beers |
