| Boudicca (205), London, England | | December 21, 2011 A lively village inn with an ever-changing selection of local brews and excellent food.
We made the Kings Arms in Hawkshead our base for a short holiday in the Lake District and I was very pleased with our choice. Hawkshead is a picturesque village and it’s tiny but has four pubs, all offering accommodation. In my view, the Kings Arms is the best pub in town and it’s very popular with locals as well as visitors. It’s a nice old inn, right on the square, and has a cosy bar with an open fire and a sort of wooden totem pole propping up the beams of the ceiling. You can also sit outside under the parasols and, if it’s a bit nippy, turn on the coin operated patio heater!
There’s a very good selection of mainly local beers which change on a daily basis, a shelf or two of single malt whiskies and nice range of soft drinks ideal for drivers. The food is exceptionally good and can be ordered in the bar or in the separate restaurant (although it’s wise to book a table as it can be very busy). The staff were friendly and efficient. All in all, highly recommended.
