A traditional Lakeland village pub where beer plays second fiddle to food and accommodation. From the outside the Sun Inn looks very traditional but once inside, up the steep slate steps, it’s like sitting on a shelf in a trendy box with light wood flooring and, unaccountably, the smell of a smokery. There are three taps – Theakston’s Best Bitter, Jennings Cumberland Ale and Loweswater Gold (ubiquitous in these parts) when we were there on a Sunday evening in October. We were the only people in the pub although the raised patio outside at the front was quite busy and it was obviously the place to be for itinerant young hotel staff. There’s a restaurant to one side and the menu looked good. (Visited 23 October 2011).
