Right next to Cyclone, so I walked over to check it out. I was expecting much worse from a grocery liquor store in Ames, but it was decent. Build your own 6 pack was nice and price was $9 so reasonable. I was not overly impressed with Cyclone so this is a nice supplement for those in search of craft beer.

Well, this has already been added, so I’ll rate it. There are two Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits in Ames. This appears to be the one that is right next to Cyclone Liquors. I guess it is worthy of a spot in the places section, since it is so close to Cyclone that you could check it out. The selection is far inferior to Cyclone, and the prices are generally higher. The only positive thing about it is that it has a make your own 6 pack selection, which Cyclone does not have for most domestics. Mind you, the choices you have to build the 6 pack with at Hy Vee are very limited, but they do have some Olde Main and Empyrean, if you feel like trying those but do not want to drop the money on getting 6 packs of them. Staff were fairly friendly, but I didn’t ask them any beer questions.

I have been to this establishment once. It is the attached store to a grocery store. The employees did not help me when i had some questions and the selection was not nearly as good as other stores in Ames, especially when Cyclone Liquors is 500 feet away.
