The Oosterling is a classic Dutch "Lokaal" on the corner, with a low bar, well worn entrance and no music or talking about politics allowed. That might distract from the mellow and pleasant drinking atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive. The terrace is on the park with the afternoon sun.

OK, Brand beers are not (any longer?) particularly exciting but, as a completist, I was looking to try them. And preferably in pleasant surroundings in a place not overrun by tourists. This place fitted my bill and I’m adding it on the basis that it will probably fit a few other people’s bills too. It’s a venerable, cosy place, some way off the beaten tourist track (but not too remote), with just a few locals in attendance when I visited mid afternoon. It has an old mosaic tiled floor, some big old barrels around and about and a strangely low bar counter (with low bar stools to match). I was also very impressed by the range of drinks on display behind the bar until I realised that it functions as a bottle shop as well as a bar. Four Brand beers on tap, including Imperator, UP and the current seasonal (Lentebock at the time). There were also a few Belgian taps and bottles on offer. By no means an essential beery stop but a pleasant spot to drop in for a few jars. And a couple of the Brand beers aren’t too bad either. Didn’t notice whether there is any food but, if there is, it will only be snacks.
