| MrBunn (53), Western, Pennsylvania | | May 23, 2009 Stopped in the other day to check things out. I normally go to the Beer Depot as we pass through town, so this was a new experience. It would be hard to pick a winner between the two, so if you’re in town, you might check both. I did find a couple of pleasant surprises and oddities, but for the most part it was pretty steeply priced. An example is the Dark Horse Plead the 5th was 12.99 for a four pack... saw it next day in GR for 9.99. It’s not like a 30% markup is the rule, but I’d guess an average of 15% on most things. | | Blaze312 (10), Ann Arbor, Michigan | | March 27, 2009 This store has a wide selection, some of the prices are a little on the high side. However, I also managed to find some deals where it was cheaper to buy 6 singles then it was to buy a 6 packs of the same beer. This place has quite a few beers in the cooler as well as many other beers/liquors/wines on the shelf. I’ll defiantly be stopping here again in the future. Did I mention it is a little cramped? A could barely pass someone in the aisle without having to do some whole maneuvering trick. This gets even more complicated as the number of beers in your hands increases. | | flatmatt (13), Northville, Michigan | | October 25, 2008 Craft beer is on one long, narrow aisle, half open shelves and half fridge doors, plus a walk-in fridge. It’s really nice that most of the selections are refrigerated. Most of the aisle is dedicated to singles of varying sizes, while the walk-in is pretty much 4- and 6-packs among the craft beer. Some of the beers on the shelves looked pretty old, but there were quite a few fairly unusual selections there. I definitely did not expect to be walking out with a Sam Adams Triple Bock when I drove up to the store! Prices are fairly high, with 4- and 6-packs of even some fairly typical (though seasonal) beers making it up to 20 dollars (Oaked Arrogant Bastard, for example, was 19.99 a sixer). Unfortunately, money was on my mind when I stopped there today, so I didn’t get a whole lot. I’d like to stop by again when money isn’t as much of an issue. | | fly (190), austin, Tejas, | | September 2, 2008 tight, cramped and made me wonder how well the beer was kept - not that they don’t do a good job, but it has the feel of a few places I’ve been that were more about profit than beer and I didn’t see anyone working there willing to discuss beer. | | AmEricanbrew (77), Doing Rogue, Louisiana | | August 8, 2008 Pretty decent craft brew selection is focused on imports and Michigan micros. Tight floor space, the aisles are not much wider than the cooler doors. Prices seemed average for the area. Did manage to find a couple brews that other area stores were out of. Not the best store in town but worth a stop. | | ¾ (599), Colorado | | January 4, 2008 Large store but cluttered and tight in the aisles, I found quite a bit of local bottles here, but the singles selection is better at the Beer Depot. They have a good selection of Belgian, Germans and other imports, and they have the 1L bottles from Sprecher. I only bought a couple of singles that I found in a cooler, but that was more because I was on foot and space was limited. If you’re doing beer in downtown AA, might as well hit this place and see if they have something you want. | | CharlesDarwin (144), Point Judith, Rhode Island | | August 18, 2007 A decent selection of common imports and regionals. However, there wasn’t anything here that wasn’t available at Bello Vino or The Beer Depot and the prices did seem higher than Bello Vino. No reason not to stop if you’re in the area though. | | sliffy (86), Columbus, Ohio | | December 20, 2006 Nice selection of michigan micros, and a surprising selection of some vintage brews. Plus they had KRE, and breakfast stout. The back room there, which I’m not sure if customers are allowed into or not, but no one said anything, was fun to pick through. Even if I didn’t really find anything back there. Cool store though, would certainly go back. The hi-light though was the Italian guy bitching to someone that he needed another case of Peroni. | | AustinMilbarge (49), Denver, Colorado | | November 27, 2006 The clientele is definitely interesting at this place, whether 1 am or pm. And, the selection is usually top notch (for Ann Arbor), and slightly cheaper than Beer Depot. A decent selection of local and other Michigan brews. | sweethoneybrew (1), does not count - explanation | | March 31, 2006 Great selection, staff is not helpful at all. I called looking for a popular beer from the Dominican Republic, and instead of finding out of he could order it, the guy explained at length how the company could tell me who distributes it, instead of working to make a sale by arranging this himself. Too bad, he lost a sale of probably five cases a month! Other stores in the area are far more willing to give great service to make a sale and earn your business. |
