| Martinus (70), Nijmegen, Netherlands | | May 21, 2012 Not very easy to find, but worth the effort. There’s a nice beer list, decent with some jewels, though not everything that’s available seems to be listed on the beer menu. Some exciting beers on draught. Overall a solid place to visit.
And it was nice to have a chance encounter with 77ships in his natural environment ;) | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | April 3, 2012 Visited on the Sunday afternoon of 2010 ZBF weekend.
Three rooms, all completely different, no food allowed to be eaten in the bar area, so we moved into ’The Zeppelin’ room (you’ll see why I called it that if you go) for our healthy deep fat fried beerfood selection of Cheese Puffs, Bitterballen and mini Lumpia’s.
The bar is fairly barron in looks, dusty old steins are in evidence and a large branch clings to the ceiling with a small light at the end of each twig, very effective and adds a rural feel to the bar room.
The third, or back room is darker and more boring than the other two, lets call it ’Odenbach’, again you’ll know why if you visit this lovelly tucked away place.
Service was friendly and swift, the young lady who served us had very good English and knew her stuff, beer wise.
Stone walls and solid wooden furniture in all the rooms, a typical Belgian ale house, the building dates back to 1548.
Even though it is not easy to find and well away from most of the other ’recommended’ beer bars of Antwerp it was fairly full. The customers were both local and beerhunters like my wife and I who were over for the Zythos Beer Festival and staying in Antwerp (mostly Brits).
| | loeki (10), , Belgium | | February 5, 2012 Heel< leuk | | PieterJan (10), Oudenaarde, Belgium | | December 14, 2011 They only want to sell food. So we went out to visit an other place. | Rupa (6), , Belgium does not count - explanation | | November 29, 2011 Cosy place with nice service and great beers as "hopruiter" and a lot of Geuze and Kriek. | | beeroverwithme (29), Tønsberg, Norway | | November 15, 2011 We had high hopes for this place and my first impression was very positive, from the 19th red brick facade to the interior of wooden furniture and dark walls.
However, the beer selection left a little to be desired (especially compared to some of the beer bars in Antwerp) and the service was slow and misguided. We asked for food recommendations and was served a meal that was tasteless, to say the least, and uninspired - reminding me of something they must have thrown together in a micro oven.
So, even if the place still had a nice atmosphere, the lack of exciting beers and the possibly worst food I’ve tasted in Europe really pulls down my rating of this restaurant. | | bvc (39), Kenmore, Washington | | October 12, 2011 Visited on recent trip to Belgium. We ended up taking a train from Brussels after spending the day at 3 Fonteinen with DA and Matt. Matt invited Hans, who owns the place or the building at least. Ordered up a couple of draft beers and sat out in the courtyard. Only 5 beers on, but decent selection including fresh Hop Ruiter. Bottle list was decent, but nothing crazy and prices were fair. Worth checking out if in town and making the rounds. | | BelgaBart (25), Antwerpen, BELGIUM, Belgium | | September 27, 2011 Amazing place, good service. Always nice food and good selection of beers. Not to expensive, everybody is always welcome. The place of the Antwerp Beer College, good place for beer tasting events ! | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | September 16, 2011 Owner and staff were quite happy to spend a lot of time with us chatting about beer. Selection is excellent, and the meals are tasty traditional fare. Definitely worth a stop. | | deanso (103), the Hague, Netherlands | | June 26, 2011 A gezellig place. Not easy to find but luckily it was close to the Zeemanshuis hotel where we were staying. A good selection of beers and friendly hosts. |
